Wow! What a fantastic job you did there! All the time you must have spent on meticulously scraping, sanding, colouring, carving etc., etc. I can't say that I like this piece of furniture itself much, but beauty is, of course, in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for a great video! Some say that the revival of mid century design is declining and that an appetite is emerging for more ornamentation / decoration in furnitute and design generally. I believe the next revival will be of the Art Deco 1920/30’s as we reach that centenary. Do you find that this is the case? Is that why you picked an older piece or is that just what you had to hand? Best wishes and keep safe, from London, UK
@elizabethburke7914 жыл бұрын
If the finish is shellac or varnish there is no need to scrape and ruin the patina. Simply mix equal parts of lacquer thinner and denatured alcohol and spread it around with a piece of very fine steel wool and wipe off the old finish with a cloth.

How do you decide when to use citrus strip, or just to sand? I’m going to strip the top of my dining room table. It was bought new 13 years ago, but the stain is dated looking now, too red of a stain for me. I want to do a more washed driftwood or walnut stain of some kind. Because the finish is relatively new, I am thinking I will have to do quite a bit of citrus strip and then start sanding?

The finish on this piece was very old and brittle so it scraped off easily. Most other pieces would do better with stripper.
