run some tests with your supplies! Namely, which soaps are okay to use, how waterproof are the eyes, how much bleach can certain materials take, stuff like that~

Test things out on small scale (glue some scrap fur to scrap foam and try washing it, I also recommend testing your eye making method being washed)

Find out what glue works best for what you need it to, the best method of dying the fur if you too, etc. Try these things with scrap materials, but you can't exactly "test on small scale" how to shape a fursuit

Me too! I put it in a bun or a high ponytail. Wearing a balaclava under the head helps keep your hair from going in your face or wrapping around your neck

My method of washing handpaws + sleeves (no airbrushing). I wash by hand in a bucket, use detergent to remove some dirty spot. Rinse it and add fabric softener for sweet smell. Then, put into pillow case and spin in washing machine to rinse. :)

It's a liquid laundry detergent for natural fibres like wool. As Pocariroo says in one of her other videos fursuit fur is synthetic so it's not the best choice. Go for a liquid detergent (if you have a dark fur it helps stop white residue) or regular powder for coloured clothes. If you have an allergy to "bio" powders with enzymes then avoid those for your suit.

I don't have a suit quite yet, but this is quite helpful! Also, as a professional carpet cleaner myself. I do have to say that for proper stain removal, flushing the area is definitely the most important part! (Alongside chemistry) I'd definitely recommend a small spot shampooer, but don't use any shampoo. Just the water spray and suction. That can better rinse any areas, plus it'll dry so much faster 😁 hope this is helpful!

I've been using a carpet spot shampoo machine on hard to wash parts for 10+ years and they really help flush out and dry parts particularly where there's foam behind.

If you had fursuit parts (not including fursuit heads), esp. tails and body suits, you should put them on a spin after washing to remove the excess water, meaning the seams are not stretched/ it drys quicker. It's good to do this with big washes, stuffed animals and coats, too. Also my mum tumble dried my furtail. Why Mum, why?? Tumble dry, more like tumble fry!!

I just brought some fur from someone as they didn't need the rest and when I got it, it smelt really strong of cigarette smoke so I had to wash it, and oh my god the colour of the water was brown. This was super pastel blue fur. It wasn't even old/used fur, it was just the scrap. I am so glad I washed it lol! This was for my personal suit I am making in the future but I think from now on I am going to wash all fur I buy before I use it on a commission lol. I washed it in the bath using some shampoo and then conditioner, I find any works for me but I think if you used some sort of ones for dyed hair that might work better. I find when I wash it like this the fur is super nice and soft! Make sure to rinse it completely, even when you think its all rinsed out, rinse it again xD.

If you can find it in your area, get yourself some Goo Gone. It works to get anything sticky off solid surfaces, carpet, and cloth. Real mayonnaise also works as well. You will want to rinse/wash them out afterwards, but the cool thing about Goo Gone is that it has a nice citrus scent to it while mayo ends up smelling kinda icky after a bit unless you really wash it out well. Test it on a bit of hidden fur first before using it on the icky spot you need to clean to make sure it will not stain the fur. :) It is made in the U.S. so it might be harder to come by in some countries. I always find it at places like Fred Meyer (if you are in the U.S.) though you might be able to get it from Amazon.

Vanish soap bars work wonders on white fur like your tail that comes into contact with the ground. Get the area damp, work up a foam with the bar, then brush through with a slicker/pet brush. Rinse like crazy - better still run clean water through with a carpet spot shampoo machine (they can be pricy, but nothing like the cost of a suit, and great for cat related accidents too).

A lot of suiters use a an underwater kinetics diver hanger with a fan. No complaints on stretching from many. Just an exception to the hanger rules

I totally agree with necks being neglected, cause I have seen people who start of with partials for a while then move to full suits and their necks are completely different shade compared to the body. So it's a good reminder to make sure you keep it clean.

Exactly! I'm more likely to avoid a fullsuit if they have an off white neck, I can see how people can get away with neglecting the neck in partials since there is nothing to compare it to (plus if they tuck it in their shirt), but it still needs to be cleaned like the rest of the suit.

You can also put some wet baking soda on there and rub it over the stain and let it sit to get it out! After it dries you get can a wet towel/cloth and wash the baking soda off then get a hairdryer and set it to the COOLEST you can go and dry it off while brushing it off!

I have washed my paws and left them out to dry and found after the partially dried overnight that they kind of smelled in some places. You can most likely put it in the dryer if your dryer has an adjustable temperature. If so, just turn it all the way down.

If you do put something in the washing machine that has any vinyl or plastic in it, like claws on paws, put it in a pillowcase. I've washed plushies like this, and it really helps. I have a feeling when I make my suit only parts will be washable, so It might be nice to know what can be safely washed. I know anything with paint or markers can not be washed.

Hi, I'm making my first suit right now. It's a quadsuit at that. I just have a quick question as I've seen varied ways of doing this, how do I attach the foam padding for the legs, shoulders etc? I've bought a under suit to wear with my fursuit. I was originally going to hot glue the padding to the under suit, and then just slide the fur suit over (basically like a pillow case). However I've seen people sew the padding into the fursuit itself, and others leave it hanging lose between the fursuit and the under suit (which it moving around would worry me). I obviously want to clean my suit, so what's the best way to attach the paddjng and be able to clean it all? Oh I'll also be dry brushing some small details on the fursuit so I'll have to hand wash it i think. I'd be really gratfeul for help. Whenever I've asked for help in ither places I've not received any and I only have a limited time to finish before the con now. Many thanks!

Clothing spot cleaner can also eat the fabric if it’s left to sit... I found this out the hard way, though it was my favorite t-shirt, not a fursuit (I don’t have one yet), that got ruined.

SO, my fursuit I want to make my OC Starlight the fur lander, the fur lander is and original species I made! She is a white dragon, almost fully white so YA dirty stains TwT, so what do I do about washing her because her hair is weird and basically its white and the tips of her hair are black, btw the tips of her hair and going to glued or something like that together so the tips are always there, AND I guess I'm going to by using air brush or dye to make the tips white, so how do I wash the head without the tips washing off? When you wash paws (long fur) make sure you wrap it in a pillow case, because well I had some paws I had the washing machine on delicate cold, and my washing machine ended clogged with fur and a finger was torn off like, I thought it outa have been fine because mischief makers made them, but now I have to make new ones. Not buying anymore. One more thing. I don't think it was the dounty fabric refresher. That's commonly used
