The movie loosely parallels the WW2 exploits of Lafayette "War Daddy" Pool an Ace Tank commander. In an 81 day period he is credited with destroying 12 tanks, 258 armored vehicles, over 1000 Germans killed and over 250 taken prisoner. Pool survived the war and died in 1991. The Fat Electrician did a KZbin video on Pool. It's well worth watching.😊

The young SS soldier that lets Norman go at the end is what Norman was at the beginning of the movie.😊❤

The German Norman shoots was wearing a US Army overcoat. It was a crime punishable by death to wear the enemies uniform. This was part of the Geneva Convention of 1929 and was added to prevent unnecessary chaos on the battlefield where frightened soldiers might fire on their own men.

I watch a documentary on WW2 tank battles a while back. In it there was a vet whose job was to rehabilitate damaged Sherman tanks. He said that the hardest part of his job was cleaning up all the blood and splattered body parts in the tanks. He also said it was criminal to send our men out in tanks that were so vulnerable. In the last 6-7 months of the war we were losing 400 Shermans per month.😮😢

The German tanks were far superior. That only changed at the very end.

@@solvingpolitics3172 Yes they were, especially the Panther. The Tiger was prone to breaking down. Most were abandoned by their crews due to running out of gas or breaking down. The King Tiger was worse. At any given time 40% of Tigers were out of commission. Germany lost the war because they couldn't keep up with Allied production. Modern industrial wars are won in the factories. As one German antitank unit said when asked why they stopped firing at the attacking American tanks, "We ran out of ammo while the Americans didn't run out of tanks."

Staying at the crossroads saved a ton of American lives...why they stayed.

that was his mission hold the cross roads or the battalion may have wiped out 100 americans that were also comming there , He gave his life to save many more lives . Yea i would have went to the trees , and than tried to warn the americans of the germans instead.

Why would they send someone like the kid to the front? In April 1945, the US was running out of men. In addition to the finish fight in Germany, they were having to supply replacements for the horrendous losses on the Pacific islands (Marianas, Palaus, Iwo Jima and Okinawa,) and build up the replacement stream for the phyrric invasions of the Japanese home islands in the autumn. They were down to combing out rear-echelon people, surplus Air Force mechanics and just graduated 18 year-olds from high school. That's all that were left, and the war was still killing 50,000 to 60,000 US soldiers, airmen and sailors EVERY MONTH.

“horse” The WW2 German army did use a lot of horses and that was one big advantage of the WW2 Allies (mostly in the support and artillery roles). The U.S. Army pretty much did away with their last horses right before WW2, though they had mechanized greatly before WW1 during Blackjack Pershing’s reinforcement of the US Mexican border (Pancho Villa’s raid, etc..). It’s been said 1940s Detroit won the European theater by supplying mostly the trucks to the allies. For this film the actors spent some time around Army tank crews to get a feel for the terminology, though there’s obviously a lot of Hollywood in the movie. It’s a dramatization of a WW2 memoir on actual tank battles using the M4 Sherman.

50:00 when they arrived in the town where they met the ladies, and had dinner, they got orders to hold to crossroads with the 3 remaining tanks, or their supply chain would be broken, he knew the odds were greatly against him, but he had to stay and fight. this is an amazing, horrifying, sad film, but one of my favs, glad you checked it out, another great reaction! 👍

Germany actually used a lot of horse drawn vehicles for logistics to resource shortages. There are clips gun cam footage of US bomber fighters strafing German transports and 50cal gunfire sending horses flying.

Germany mostly relied on horses and wagons, it was one of their major downfalls. It's why the goofy attack on the cauceses, or why their aviation fuel sucked, or why they didn't have enough for tanks to advance lol

the rear of the tank is much thinner armor baby , Yea maybe the top as well .

Miss you do reactions the way i like mostly moviw content on screen and on you , You keep a small circle with a darker background this is easy on the eyes and you keep the movie flowing , Every 5th round out of the barrel of the guns is a tracer so you see where you are shooting dear woman.

Just so you know. You don't have to talk through the ENTIRE movie. The idea is to see your reactions, not hear narration through the entire movie... Just saying. And when you talk through the whole movie, you miss stuff.

Some questionable takes, yeah. But just like the movie, we learn best by experience/exposure, so telling her to stop isn't going to help anything.
