Hey @TheDubpace, thanks for this guide - can you elaborate a bit on stat priority? Beyond getting the weapon skill / hit-cap would you stack more agi vs strength to improve crit chance, or prioritise strength for AP? Or are you just looking for an even balance between Sta/Str/Agi?

This video helped me a lot. I loved how deep prot felt since I tanked in retail, but Fury/prot always seemed so messy and hectic. I had macros for all kinds of stance-dancing with certain abilities. Like 2H equip and whirlwind etc. My key takeaway was that I was trying to do too much. I'm seeing that I don't have to do everything on every pull for this to actually work. Thank you!

i think you undervalue the power of HS, since it gives you 16% hit on the OH its quite the big threat increase and removes glancing blow from the main hand, as long as your not delaying BT you should use ur rage on HS. Sunder is only really used when u have a window where u dont delay BT with the gcd. IK this is a bit technical and would maybe be a bit confusing for a newbie furyprot. i usually tank with 3/31/17 since u usally dont need the extra armor. spec should obv be differant depending on what wepons youre using since a slow weapon gets less value from imp hs, which would make the 0/32/19 build better :)

David, I agree with everything you said above. The reality is that the warrior rotation can be complicated, I'm still learning the nitty gritty myself. It might be interesting to dive deep into the nuances of the rotation in another video geared toward advanced/experienced fury prot tanks. If you watch some of my game play in other videos, you'll see I'm quite heavy handed with heroic strike (to a fault in some fights), I just feel spamming HS hits so hard and pumps tons of DPS. Your threat feels like it surges faster than using too much rage on sunder. Thanks for watching and weighing in :)

HS is technically just better than SA on TPS if you are close enough to crit cap which is definitely possible with a few world buffs! If you are around 38% crit always prio HS and have dps keep up thunder

Dont forget to put: /Stopcasting on all of your weapon swap macros. The game has an issue with swapping around weapons when you have HS or Cleave qued.

@@TheDubpace Just put it at the end of every weapon swap macro. Spam it like a mad man or at least hit it three times. Once to cancel the HS / cleave. once to weapon swap. Once to use an ability if attached to the macro. Also dont forget to make the Heroic strike cancel macro for max dps / tps. In classic heroic strike has a bug when you que Heroic strike or cleave, your offhand will have the same %hit as your main hand. Effectively meaning if you are special ability hit capped, your offhand will pretend it's a special ability and always hit. You can cancel the heroic strike / cleave and still gain the +hit benefit. all it is: /cast Heroic Strike /Stopcasting hit once to que the ability. Hit a 2nd time to cancel before your mainhand / offhand fully goes through. There are better macros out there but this is just basic and simple and if used correctly will increase your damage output.

I use a bit more of a complex macro, but it serves a double purpose by allowing me to swap between my weapons a shield with one button. It also changes my stances depending on whether I am equipping a shield or not. I have it switch to defensive when I am putting on a shield and berserker when I go back to dual wielding. I'm full fury (w/ tactical mastery), so if you're fury prot, you may want to skip the stance swapping part. Since I have 2 Deathbringers, I had to use the item/enchant id's to make it work. When DWing, my MH is crusader, and OH agi. When I put my shield on, I have it equip the agi weapon (for the extra crit/dodge). The only thing about this macro is you can't spam it...or you may end up with your weapons back on. I have a weakaura that makes an audible noise and flashes an icon when I put my shield (or my OH weapon) on, so I know right away if I double press. But other than that small drawback, this set-up has been working really well for me. #showtooltip Drillborer Disk /stopcasting /equipslot [worn:shields] 16 item:17068:1900; 16 item:17068:2564 /equipslot [worn:shields] 17 item:17068:2564; 17 item:17066:1704 /cast [noworn:shields] Defensive Stance; Berserker Stance

A tip regarding charge as fury/prot: Because of spell batching shenanigans you can macro charge+stance change together and you will receive the rage from charge after you changed stances. You have to be careful when using it though, as it will change stances without charging if you're just out of range to charge etc. I've found it to be very useful

@NorNamor
@NorNamor 4 жыл бұрын
Great video! The pre-bis is a bit scetchy as you have very low hp for a tank with it. To make it work you pretty much cannot loose youre worldbuffs. I would recommend anyone who is starting out to go for the 6% and 305 (either through racials or by farming a muggers belt, assumeing edgemasters are out of the question) cause you can get a bit more survival this way. You have 9 hit and comes at a very high cost to your gear. This way you can get a bit more survival into the build: 1. Swap Vambraces of the Sadist for Bracers of Valor for 200armor from 2-set and more stam. 2. Satyr's Bow for Gorewood Bow 3. One or both of the rings for a Myrmidon's Signet/Band of Flesh.
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
Good suggestions! I agree the health pool is the #1 thing lacking with the pre-bis. When I have my threat gear on with almost full bis it's ~1000 hp higher. I personally think you would be okay tanking ZG & MC with world buffs, but I would highly suggest flasking for BWL. The gear swaps you suggest are good as well, like I mentioned a lot of the gearing is personal preference - you swap in and out pieces as you see fit! Thanks for watching :)

I suppose this is late, but the single target rotation is wrong in a critical way. BT > Rev is fine, but next is Heroic, NOT Sunder. You dump rage with sunder. The reason for this is the heroic strike queueing that treats your offhand hits like yellow hits. This combined with world buffs and consumes stacking crit to the point you have 90%+ uptime in flurry makes heroic strike better than sunder spam, not to mention the extra flat threat and damage as well. There are exceptions to this, like the very beginning of the fight where snap threat matters. Then sunder is your friend, has the snappiest threat and pretty good rage to threat ratio.

I distinctly remember skarm saying he wouldn't go furyprot before phase 3, because he wanted some of the items from BWL before swapping over. (presumably DTP, chromatic boots, and maybe DFB and DFT). An important part of Deep prot is that shield slam has a relatively high flat threat modifier, while the threat with furyprot is much more scaleable with your crit and AP. You need a solid ammount of threat-gear to out-threat what you would have done with deep prot. Personally, i don't think you should advocate furyprot with dungeon gear at all. If you have the pre40-BIS pieces from ZG, it might work out, but stepping into MC as main tank in dungeon blues and furyprot sounds like a bad time, especially since the Annihilator trash demands that you rotate taunt-mockingblocw-taunt, which is much harder without Tac Mastery.
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for writing all of this out. I also remember Skarm saying very early on that he didn't suggest Fury Prot until later stages in the game, but then he mentions briefly in his Razorgore video the importance of tanks being fury prot for BWL. I was also curious if Deep Prot was actually better threat than Fury Prot with the dungeon pre-bis, so I ran it through the TPS spreadsheet simulator from the warrior Fight Club. The results that I got (with world buffs - no DMF) are: Impale Prot: 585.77 TPS Fury Prot: 794.3 TPS I'll also mention that Skarm uploaded a video in October of him clearing MC as a Fury Prot MT in blues/pre-bis gear. You might want to watch some of that and see what he says about the spec. Also regarding the Annihilators in MC, our guild has always just rotated the taunts between 3 of the warriors. Epic novel that I wrote up here, but you can see why I wanted to start exploring and making videos on this topic. My warrior was my 2nd 60 and when trying to learn how to tank there was a TON of contradictory/unclear information and I spent a lot of hours trying to pore through all of that info to figure out what I wanted to do with my spec. I'm not an expert tank by any means, but I'm trying my best to put some good info out there :)

Skarm also made that video before classic was released and was basing his opinions on the way raid mobs were tuned in private servers. Very early after classic came out, well before BWL even came out, pretty much every hardcore raid tank (including skarm) were running fury prot.

Hey Dubpace, great video! I just wanted to know what your survivability is like on harder hitting fights like Firemaw, and Broodlord in BWL. What gear do you change up? Is dual wielding viable for fights like those in your experience? Do you keep shield on for most of the fight or just when you need it? In other words, does having full world buffs/consumes + stoneshield potions make dual wielding on every fight in BWL viable/possible with little chance of dying (Assuming decent healers)? Thanks!

You can still charge for Rage without losing it as Fury/Prot; macro your stance change with Charge, and you'll still get the Rage. Whether due to spell batching, or the code of Charge itself, you actually generate the Rage *during* the Charge animation, not right at the start, and the macro makes the stance swap instant before the animation actually starts. This still has limited use in raid due to typical boss aggro radius, but if you aren't the MT pulling, or otherwise in dungeons, you can still reap the benefit.

What about 5% Parry you loose ...? What about the lost of shieldblock ...? Not getting squishi?
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
As mentioned in many of the other comments, yes losing the 5% parry is considered a mitigation loss. If the parry is important to you, it is possible to move points around in the spec to get more parry. There is no loss of shield block with this spec. In general, if you are concerned about losing the parry %, then it is too early for you to switch to Fury Prot. (I.e. If you are relying on 5% chance to keep you alive on boss fights.)
@MrVolke13
@MrVolke13 4 жыл бұрын
Losing parry doesn't make you squishier. Avoidance (parry/dodge) does not affect wether or not you survive when you do actually take a hit, it reduces on average your damage taken during a fight by negating some hits entirely. But when you do get hit, and you will because you will never reach 100 percent avoidance, parry does nothing to help you survive that hit. The two stats that make you survive hits/bursts reliably are Stamina and armor, none of which you lose by going fury prot. Going dual wielding obviously is going to make you squishier since you lose about 3k armor from your shield and the ability to push crits off by using shield block, but if you are using a shield and full worldbuffs + consumes, fury prot is still better threat than deep prot at no SURVIVABILITY loss. It does increase how much overall damage you will take during a fight so it does increase how much healers have to heal you overall which is why the video says that switching to fury prot depends on wether your healers cans tomach and whether you actually need the extra threat to hold your dps.

Missing on the stance dance is a big, massive inconvenience for anything outside of raid. It's a pretty good guide and the playstyle seems good for maximum efficiency with gear and good players with you, but I feel like deep prot is much better for most people tanking with most people. I feel pain knowing you lose all your rage for charging, preventing you to charge mobs, as it's one of the funniest things to do as a warrior. But I can see the appeal.

hey bro, just discovered your vid's.. great job!! i've been main tanking and raid leading for awhile now for my guild. came here to see if mabye you knew something i didn't.. one small critique though. @3:16 you said "deep protection doese NOT have any more survivability then a Fury prot warrior". you have to keep in mind the 4% extra armor you'd get out of speccing deep prot, AND the 5% parry from the arms tree. Not to mention 8pc t2 procs off parrys also. dosen't sound like much. but, if u spec deep prot. then go fury with the same gear. the mitigation difference is very noticable.
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, you lose the 5% parry when going the fury prot build mentioned in the video. However, just as you mentioned in your comment: Your survivability or "tankiness" is very dependent on the gear that you wear. If you wear the 8 piece T2 set with sword and board, you will feel extremely tanky in virtually ANY spec. Conversely, if you're wearing full threat gear as deep prot spec you will feel considerably squishier. In general, it seems people are the most nervous about dual wielding against hard hitting bosses, and if you don't trust your healers - their concern is justified. Just like I mentioned in the video as well, the strength of your raid is the #1 determining factor on whether or not you should make the switch. Hope that helps clarify the sentiment I was trying to pass - thanks again for weighing in.

@@TheDubpace yeah man. you're 100% correct. i was just saying that the amt of damage intake is noticable with the same exact gear in deep prot vs. fury/defiance specs. Either way you still would be tank enough to fury/prot tank tho. 100%. I was just trying to make the point that you are more ... "tank"... as deep prot spec then you will be as fury/defiance is all... great video though. it was very well done :)

Nice and informative video, just one thing that I was wondering. How come the gear you put together is fully DPS orientated, is that really viable when you are going in to a proper 40-man raid as a MT? I feel that it's like 90% DPS oriented, you must be lacking avoidance with or without world buffs with the ZG set options?
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! Long story short, you don't really need the mitigation gear and if your raid does need you to be stacking mitigation then it isn't a good time to spec to fury prot. This spec is focused on increasing your threat, not necessarily mitigating lots of damage. Hope that helps~

Please, show bis list. When should I change lionheart to endless rage? Is it better to put 100hp/zg chant or 8str? Are weapon skill and hit really needed? I've seen impale prot that have 1 or 2 hit but getting a huge amount of threat wearing 7/8 t2.

Here is the bis list that I use from the warrior Fight Club Discord: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YXJpasqqodeq9B4jeUZDP9khFQf5QocyMby6moydJWk/htmlview?usp=sharing# Basically, switch to Endless Rage once you are hit-capped with other gear and can make the swap. I used +8 STR for my lionheart and ZG enchant for my Endless Rage. Yes, weapon skill and hit cap are really needed. Impale Prot is a good spec (I used it for awhile), but can't hold up to Fury Prot threat generation when it is played correctly. Good luck!

Hey man, excellent vid! One point that I also noticed when digging through our raid'a logs: too many buffs. At about the 16:00 mark when you start tanking Razorgore, all the in-combat buffs and healing buffs knock off your trib buffs. I got our MT to make sure to remove stuff like arcane brilliance and not use lesser useful consumes like food or green grog. You can even macro into your regular abilities to cancelaura for stuff like blood craze (it's not that great of a heal) or the T2 5 piece proc if you're using T2 5-piece. Making sure to keep world buffs is a huge threat bonus. Edit: looks like that clip was from this log probably classic.warcraftlogs.com/reports/BTKndNabGgHfF7ZM#source=16&type=auras&view=events&fight=9&start=1532424&end=1605704. Technically WF and inspiration knocked them off, but just a little too many buffs. Edit 2: no I'm dumb lol, that's on Broodlord not Razorgore. Still though, same situation.

So as to you original point of survivability, with the complete lack of a shield ergo no shield block. Could you defend that statement more ? I ask because we do use 1 fury prot tank in our raids and there is no doubt in my experience that he is squishier when not using a shield. this is in a bwl geared raid fyi.
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
So the key here is that a good Fury Prot tank always has the flexibility to put a shield on and wear all of the same gear that a deep prot tank would wear. In situations where a dangerous amount of damage is going out, your tank will be using a shield no matter what spec they are. I will note that fury prot does take the improved shield block as well. Regarding a dual wield tank, as I recommend and utilize in my own raids, you should always "negate" the armor loss of a shield by using a Greater Stoneshield Potion for each boss fight.
@hunterosborne2373

Question, what should my priority be if I am a secondary tank on like hakkar or broodlord for getting threat? I use Core hound tooth, mugger's belt plus drillboarer, or I use OEB when off tanking for threat. I have the role of second or third tank. I don't really have much rage to spend on abilities like bloodthirst, but I went fury prot because on single tank fights I can at least put up luke warm DPS numbers versus cold freeze deep prot. One thing I noticed in fury prot versus deep prot is I don't have rage for abilities. I run about 19%-22% crit with no BWL gear depending on mitigation setup. Oh yeah, world buffs are not reliable for my raid because we have frequent tank deaths and massive BRM pvp each raid night.
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
If the boss cleaves (e.g. Broodlord), ask your healers if it is OK for you to stand in the cleave to generate more rage. For bosses with no cleave, it is best to use a Mighty Rage Potion and accept that you won't have access to Greater Stoneshield potion for that fight. Try your best to find a way to bring world buffs into raid, it helps a lot. The more people that bring the buffs, the more serious people will play to protect those buffs. Good luck!

should I be spamming sunder armor in defensive stance? Should I be using blood thrust on cooldown in defensive or berserker stance? Again world buffs are not available
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
Everything you are doing should be in defensive stance to take advantage of the threat modifier. Use Bloodthirst + Revenge on cooldown, use heroic strike if you have enough for BT after the HS casts. Otherwise, use sunder as a filler GCD as it does not prevent rage generation from auto attack like HS.

Why do you prefer fast weapon over slow ones? Is that only because of heroic, because it seems to me that they don't do nearly as much damage as a 2.5+ weapon overhall in term of dps and my treath seems way higher when i use those
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
I like fast weapons mainly due to the ability to dump heroic strikes faster, it gives me more flexibility to "make up for lost time" where I let my rage pool too high and I'm going to hit rage cap. I also feel as though fast weapons have a "smoother" rage generation. Ultimately rage generation on a weapon-to-weapon basis is normalized across attack speeds, it seems the primary thing that affects rage generation is the DPS of a weapon. More damage = more rage.

im prob late to the scene, i just hit 60 and wanting to give this a go as it seems fun. Im still pretty far away in terms of gearing tho and i fear its going to be a long hard one One thing i have discovered is that you can use a macro for charge and keep the rage when switching to defensive due to the spell batching. /cast Charge /cast Defensive Stance that gives me 15 rage for sunder armor

Assuming you can meet the 6% hitcap without it, I'd replace Lionheart with Crown of Destruction off rag. Also, for non human/orc Daggers are easily your best bet. Theres Muggers Belt from DMN and Aged Core Leather Gloves in MC (As well as a world boss item). Weapon Skill of 5 is absolutely mandatory for Fury Prot. So Edgemasters or one of the other items
@TheDubpace
@TheDubpace 4 жыл бұрын
Crown of D is pretty good, that can be nice upgrade after the prebis! Yes as you can tell, I also like daggers. Another weapon combo that I was thinking prebis is: Glacial Blade MH Distracting Dagger OH. Not amazing, but they are easy to farm and I'm sure it would work just fine in MC so you can get your Perds.
