Pro Tip: Avoid sketch fillets at all cost. There are some scenarios when they're necessary, but generally you'll want to use the Solid modeling Fillet. This will keep your sketches simpler and easier to fully define (to drive design intent). Modeling fillets are also parametric and can be better managed in your timeline, along with other parameters and features.

This is something I've struggled with, my fillets were breaking the parametric design. Although the trick to fix it was to not pres enter on dimensions but clicking the next lines (this was not clear in the video). Turns out fusion is capable of making those fillets parametric, but you need to make sure that the dimensions between the centers of the fillet are staying unchnaged. If you press enter, the dimensions will change only on the side you're editing breaking the dimensional coherence.

he is 100% right about that. I was using filets in the solid modeling and then tried in the sketch environment and quickly found that makes future adjustments a serious problem

For someone just trying to learn the basics I have to say THANK YOU. I watched another video and they sped through it, did not explain how they even made it extrude or set the dimensions. The cube to start off was perfect to cover those basics.

Amazingly useful tutorial! I just got my first 3D printer and, as it happens, Pi cases are one of the things I want to make. Seeing someone doing a real world design like this was far more useful than the "let's just make a box and put a hole in it" style from other tutorials -- on top of which, most of the popular tutorials seem to be based on older versions of Fusion 360. And thanks for the GrabCAD link -- that's crazy useful to learn about!

This was exactly what I was looking for to get the basics down and begin the troubleshooting process of Fusion360. Been 3d printing for a very long time and wanted to get into making my models for my drones. This was a great starting step to get my through the basics, working with existing models, and all that. I subscribed and hit the bell. I'm new, brand new (less than a week) at 3D printing. Look, you gave us a disclaimer of not being an expert, but here's my observation... before I found you I watched a number of other KZbinrs who claimed to be professional designers or engineers. I'm not saying I don't believe them; but their instructions where fast and way more technical than they needed to be. Your instructions were easy to follow and described the operations perfectly. Hey man, I have to say that this video is most likely one of the best ones on KZbin. I have been browsing and watching (alarming really) for weeks.. and I think you are extremely pedagogical about all this. I hade less than absolute zero background in 3D modeling when I started and from only this video I have learned to navigate Fusion 360 and make dynamic models! Is there any way to pay for your time and get consultation? Do you have curses one like my self can buy? I did join the DS server but there is no chat channel to be able to talk/discuss and engage as it seems (maybe that is a user error)? Nevertheless I have to thank you for actually sharing knowledge!

hey man thanks for the vid. went thru with it and have to say it needs a lot of improvement. there are lots of moments when you "do sth" and dont say what, for example whenyou added the horizontal support u went back to sketch, but it is almost impossible to see how you did it. as a person who was doing a lot of tutorials just a friendly reminder to accent everything you do click. you remember most of this stuff but if someone was trying to learn from this it has some flaws

I think an video of curved lines would be very helpful and lets say you have a straight line and then you need to curve it, just a bit. And also, sometimes you need a line/curve to be a little like a "spring", so to cover diffrient types of filament would be great!

Thank you for giving me a good starting point. I wanted to build my own Pi case to accommodate a 120mm fan and this was a perfect introduction. Tried in TinkerCAD but it's a heck of a lot harder without tools like Fillet and Chamfer or even being able to project from other objects.

great content and thank you. I do have one suggestion if this is going to be a crash course, def should slow down the hyper mouse. two things are happening here. The pointer is small enough to easily get lost and by the time our eyes have followed it to its destination, you have already rapidly moved it away. The verbal direction is excellent, but the actual mouse pace needs to be dialed back and the pointer needs better visibility. Looking good otherwise :)

At min 16, you could have done a thin extrude on the line without using offset. Offset can be a bit of a pain especially when you are filleting corners - nice videos though
