A good example of how NOT to use flathead screws. They are designed to be used with a countersunk hole. A proper screw would of been the button head screws.

Yes. Actually a good way to do this is to use a different feature than align like he did. You can use the assembly feature which allows you to select two components and join them. But first you want to find the correct threaded hole for your fastener and counter-sink it.

Definitely. Either countersink the hole in the PCB or use pan head fasteners.

DUDE! I am new to fusion 360! I have has a fit of a time figuring out how to add screws and bolts. You made learning this crazy easy! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

For screws going into holes, it would be better to use the Joint command to both align the components and it also allows for threads to be modeled at the same time

I use this feature all the time. I wish their catalog had more choices in metric though, types of screw heads. But there’s always Grabcad.

Very cool, I didn’t know about this functionality, will DEFINITELY be incorporating this in to my projects moving forward. I’d be interested to see how well the McMaster-Carr dialog works with ordering.

Great video. When I make hardware and try to print it exclusively in my 3d printer. The threads from the hardware disappear when moved to the slicer. It doesn't give the same option as making a hole in a thread to where you actually print the threads. I'm using the free version currently. Any advice would be great thanks.

The way you measured for the screws for the pi is why you chose the wrong ones. You should have placed the nuts and then measured from a feature on the top of the nut all the way to the larger circle of the countersink on the bottom.

New to adding parts, when you print the part it knows to make the threads? Or is that different?

You started selecting screws, but beforehand, how did you decide the diameter of the holes for your design without knowing what hardware you would be using?

Countersunk screws without countersunk holes. Interesting idea. LOL

Do you have to make threats first and then add the screws or when you add a screw does it make the threads automatically for you?

Is there not a way to component pattern? Let’s say I have a hole feature with 4 holes, all based on a sketch. I want to put four screws in, one in each hole. Solidworks has a feature which would allow me to put one screw in, mate (joint) it into one of the holes, then with two clicks, I can pattern the screw to the rest of the holes. Not a big deal with a 4 hole pattern and only screws. But a 6+ hole pattern with screws and nuts… that’s joints for 12 different parts. That’s a lot of clicks. Solidworks would be mates (joints) for 2 parts then two clicks and bam they’re all there. Not saying Solidworks is better, I’m transitioning from it and looking for tips. Note this kind of feature is really important when you inevitably decide to change hardware, as you would have to change two parts (nut and bolt) and the rest would pattern.

using Joints would be a much better idea than the align tool .... the align tool just aligns the screw, but it is not locked in position and you can still move it around after .... with the joint command it works the same as the align but locks it in place
@adafruit

yes true but also good to note more than a dozen joints for just screws the timeline can get unruly and performance gets slow

Why use align over joints?
@adafruit
@adafruit 7 жыл бұрын
+TAD2020 didn’t think the screws ever need to move in the assembly, they’re mostly static

You can use joints and choose the option of rigid. That way they are aligned and the rigid option tells it to not move. Though the beauty of Fusion 360 is there are multiple ways of doing something and most of the time other options are not wrong. The align command works fine too.
