This is why people say math is hard, it's because they are learning from people who can't do math properly

29 is a prime number so after you get 20 + (29/35) you can't simplify that into anything that isn't irrational (goes forever without repeating) so you would have to go to however many s.f. you were asked. So if it was 4 significant figures (4s.f.) which would be 2 decimal points (2.d.p.) in this case only, you would do this chain of 290/35 for the first decimal point of 8+(10/35) giving 20.8 and then (100/35) gives 2+(30/35) as the last decimal point required giving 20.82 but the answer was only to 4s.f. (2 decimal places) so you don't have to go any further. so the answer is: 20.82. same way with 1581/45 = 35.13 recurring (35.133333333....) as every step after the first 3 will give 3 +(15/45) so 150/45 = 3 + (15/45) and will keep repeating ad infinitum. nat was fine with what she was doing 35 +(6/45), 60/45 = 1 +(15/45) so it's 35.1, (15/45) goes to (150/45)=3+(15/45)etc. If you really spot it early you can just simplify 15/45 to 1/3 and you should know that 1/3 = 0.3 recurring (0.33333....) so after the 1 you would just add on the end (0.03333.....) getting 35.13 recurring (35.13333333.....) that way.

This wasn’t them teaching her anything, this was them trying to solve a problem themselves with zero explanation of what they were doing on each step and why. Can’t teach anyone math when they don’t understand the fundamentals of each step.

Why do people make Math seem so hard. It’s not that y’all can’t understand it just people try not to understand but giving up and not paying attention enough. Also they be trying to add their own logic and make up rules when all you need to do it how it’s supposed to be done.

I see we have a bunch of geniuses in the comments with photographic memory. After being out of school for so long this is really difficult to remember. Yes, obviously if we were eleven we could probably do this in our sleep. That doesn’t mean we’ve regressed, but that we’re out of practice and don’t remember.
@ChrisB_198222 күн бұрын
This is actually a good example of regression of the human brain. As time passes every generation is becoming more and more dependent on technology that basic 2nd/3rd grade math cant be done on the fly without a calculator. Were not talking about Calculus here.
@Vermonstered16 күн бұрын
Does everyone remember the short cuts to multiplying or dividing fractions? PEMDAS? No. But this is BASIC long division. As an individual that passed elementary school and likely math classes after that, you should be able to do arithmetic, subtraction, multiplication and division without electronic assistance. Though this is part of the reason the common core math curriculum was created. High school graduates couldn't make change for basic sales jobs because they couldn't reliably use denominations of 1¢, 5¢, 10¢ & 25¢...
