This really hit home for me. I had a weird relationship with my brother where we stopped talking for a long time too. He passed unexpectedly and I regret not rekindling that relationship with him. Hearing this made me sob, I'm happy for Leslie!

As an older brother who lashed out and felt isolated in high school with a younger sister who was favored by our parents (both descriptions are self-admitted retrospectively now that we’re older) this story felt very relatable for me. We were lucky to have rekindled earlier in our lives (when I was in college and she was in high school), so I can imagine how overwhelming this was for Leslie, and I’m super happy she got to rekindle this relationship with her brother!

This is something I can really relate to.. not having a great relationship with my brother. Hearing her speak about her brother throughout the years was heartbreaking, but when she came out with this news last night I cried so hard. This hit pretty hard for me. I lost my brother a few years ago due to suicide. These times of year can be rough. We fought when we were younger and I always thought he didn't even like me. However, once we moved apart we really started to appreciate each other. I am so glad that you were able to rekindle your relationship. To everyone else, it's never too late. When he said he’d “let the photoshoot happen cos it would be funny” cemented in my mind that they’re the same person 😂😂 it’s so stupid how they could have an amazing relationship if not for the small petty things in life. There should also have been intervention by the parents and deny any favoritism even if true.
@JJDaJettPlane17
@JJDaJettPlane17 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing about him trolling her, totally shows how much they’re actually alike and have the same sense of humor. 🤣🤣🤣 Also, the intervention would’ve been good, but from how she told the story, I don’t think their parents have a “favorite”. I think their parents treated them both the same but just let them sibling relationship run its course in hopes that something like this would happen. So I think that the parents not intervening helped. Shout out to that random person for sending that clip to him, they’re the real MVP.

What Leslie said about not being able to tell him her real feelings to his face is why I think people should normalize writing letters to each other. The problem with talking is that it is a dialogue, the other person always feels like they have to defend theirself or respond to what is being said. Letter, or I guess video messages, are perfect because it lets a person explain their side of the story without interruption and gives the reader time to actually comprehend the message in a rational manner without anger. Imagine essentially receiving a report card every year where the people you care about most, talk about the most important thing they wish they could say to you, good or bad, but have a hard time finding the right moment to talk about it.

Yea, having siblings a lot older than you is very difficult. My brother is 9 years older, so by the time I was in middle school he had already moved out, and moved to another state. He wasn’t able to teach me any of the lessons he learned growing up. Basically the only thing I remember of him back then is him babysitting me a couple times at his friends house when he was in highschool, him yelling at me to not play with his nintendo, and the sound of him yelling at my mom and dad what seemed like every night. He came back around the time I was graduating highschool and we would go on drives at night sometimes, but by then the damage was done. It basically felt like he abandoned me. When I think about my upbringing it feels like I was an only child. We interacted so infrequently that our personalities are polar opposites, and everyone is always surprised when they find out that we are brothers.
@AidanDracole
@AidanDracole Жыл бұрын
@@WARnTEA I'm sorry to read that, and yes, there's always that difficulty in trying to connect with a close (yet distant) relative for whom there's almost half a generational difference. I guess I'm lucky(er) insomuch six years isn't so bad and there was another (middle) sibling both of us got along pretty well with. Like you, our personalities were just too different (still are in many respects), but while there was nothing which made us hate or even dislike each other, we just drifted apart when she left home to go to university (it's taken a long time for me to accept that a lot of it was also our dad's fault... he's not a bad man, but he's greatly flawed as a parent because of how he was brought up, something he's very regretful about, which nevertheless led to all three of his kids being somewhat uncommunicative, me especially). Despite all that, though, we slowly re-connected over about four or five years and we can say we have a sibling-like relationship and wonder why it was ever not. I hope, one day, you'll be able to share the same with your brother and that you can reconcile.

This made me so happy for her. Family is important and I’m glad that she has a relationship with her brother again. Edit: I’m reading everyone’s stories about how they can relate to Leslie and her brother and I just want to say.. I hope we all are able to build a relationship with our loved ones. We never know what the future holds and if you miss someone.. please reach out to them before you are unable to do so. Even if we have to take baby steps to build a relationship again… I hope we all get there. Love y’all FusFam and wishing you all the best. ❤️

This really hits home for me because I don’t have a good relationship with my older sister. Our relationship is like Leslie and her brother’s relationship. We’ll sit in the same room and just not talk or anything. We love each other, but it sucks because I think that we both don’t know how to talk to each other 😢

Damn, my parents would never allow for me and my siblings to not have a relationship. Throughout my whole life they kept hammering into me that even tho you can’t have friends. No person on earth will care as much as your own blood does. I’m so happy for her she has that relationship now since sibling bonds might be the most important ones in your life.

Some siblings are evil, my sister and brother are horrible people so sometimes even your blood can be your worst enemy

EXACTLY. I genuinely couldn't even begin to understand her story. Siblings who hate each other are easier to understand. Like what happened if her mom had to tell the same thing to both of them? Did she go to each other separately to repeat the same thing because they're apparently strangers omg?

i was never super distanced with my brother, but there was a couple years where our relationship was somewhat strained and i was working super hard to be closer to him but felt like he didn't want me around, or that i was being an overbearing sister. even though we're pretty close now, this story made me cry so hard. sibling bonds have always been so special to me and im so happy for leslie that she rekindled her relationship with her brother.
