Miami is long overdue for a on-campus (or close to campus) stadium. It's a lot tougher to build a fan base among the student body when your program plays in a stadium that's almost in Broward County. I don't know if I'd want to go for 60K for a stadium size (maybe 45-50K), but it'd be nice if there was an on-campus stadium for The U sooner rather than later.
@Canedude08
@Canedude08 Жыл бұрын
It’s amazing how few actually understand WHY we don’t have a stadium on campus at UMiami. There isn’t space and just an FYI, Coral Gables land is extremely expensive. Even this proposed stadium is miles away from campus and will likely require a county referendum because it’s a county owned park.

There's always been a faction of Pitt fans that want to move the stadium back on campus. The only problem is that there is zero room on campus to put the stadium without bulldozing a bunch of houses/buildings or digging out an entire hillside.

There is more to the Purdue project they're closing the horseshoe and adding standing areas for students in the endzone that is currently open and adding a tunnel for the home and visiting teams. They're replacing the beer garden and putting a huge block of grandstands in the endzone where the student section will be.

Florida just announced plans for a major renovation to The Swamp. The AD said he wants the stadium to be good for at least another 75 years. Not sure of the specifics other than it’s a multi year project. I’d like to know what the final capacity will be. They’ve been stuck at 85-90k for over 30 years. But their problem is they can’t build up the East stands because they’re next to some historically listed buildings.

The administration (so far) has zero interest in an on-campus stadium at Miami. It is basically the dream of one rich man (Ruiz). The Hard Rock Stadium improvements included major Hurricanes facilities. Like Pitt, Temple and UNLV, Miami is very happy sharing an NFL facility that they don't own or maintain.
@CreightonRabs
@CreightonRabs Жыл бұрын
So, Miami administration is okay with the football team playing at a venue that might as well be in Broward County? I get that they might not want to pay to maintain their own on-campus stadium, but at the same time, they don't seem to realize the missed opportunities of an on-campus stadium. Pitt had a chance to either rebuild the old Pitt Stadium many years ago, but an on-campus stadium in the Oakland section of the city where Pitt's located, fueled in part by the expansion of the UPMC (Pitt's medical system) hospital campus makes an on-campus stadium impossible there. Pitt football actually shares a training complex with the Steelers in the city's South Side, so unlike USF or UNLV, there's a strong partnership between an FBS program and an NFL team.

It’s extremely well documented the known discrepancy in university allocations for improvements in sports vs improvements in education. These are supposed to be institutions for a degree but it’s become clear college isn’t where you necessarily go for an education in the US anymore….. In the last 4 years Division 1 schools spent $2.5 BILLION in sport renovations and administrative positions for athletic facilities and teams. That money would currently pay full tuition for 800,000 Americans based on average in-state public university costs. But aren’t the stadiums pretty!
