And as revenge the samurai burnt her alive. You can notice at the end when they were dying, Gyutaro blamed himself for being such a bad influence to Ume, he said maybe if he didn’t influence her to be so evil, maybe she would’ve gotten married, had kids, etc. and because of him, they died as demons. That’s why she was given a choice to choose Hell or Heaven. Gyutaro could only go to Hell because of all the evil things he has done. But because of the influence Gyutaro gave to Ume, they grew a strong bond, so Ume chose to go with Gyutaro who could only go to hell.

Daki and Gyutaro had a horrible past but that doesn't excuse their actions, and doesn't change the fact that Gyutaro wanted to pay for everything he did as a demon or that Daki wanted to stay with him. KNY is actually really good at making the character's choices seem real, and yes they fall into classic tropes and stereotypes. However, they also heavily break them like with Daki and Gyutaro, they could've easily made it "both get to be reborn and all is right for them now" but I think a lot of people will agree that happy endings for everyone gets old fast. The way they showed their deaths fell in line with an obvious storyline, but at the same time helped them turn away from the "every slain demon gets a happy ending" which would've made KNY very predictable very fast, and that's not something many people will watch in an anime. Saying all of that isn't me trying to argue with anyone, if that's how you see it that's fine but I don't care so keep it to yourself, my only reason for commenting this is because you (the youtuber who posted this) put your opinion in the video. That, in my opinion, is opening a discussion in the comments where everyone is free to share their opinions on the topic that was brought up. Also this isn't me, in any way, saying that their past is invalid or that either of them defending themselves is invalid, because they had a tragic backstory and it's horrible that Daki had to stab someone to protect herself just to get literally burned by it.
