Rogers Arena? It's not even that old and it's in a solid location. They're also renovating it by adding new seats, a ring beam around the whole arena with 64 new digital screens, new scoreboard, some surrounding area renovations, and they added a club area this year in the arena connecting to a luxury restaurant. I think its safe to say Rogers Arena is a top tier arena after all of these renovations.

The Flyers are not moving. The WFC was very much built for the Flyers and is beloved for hockey. The Sixers new arena, which may not happen, would be basketball-only. A hockey rink is more than twice the size of a basketball court before you even add benches and penalty boxes. Again, this is the reason you hate college ball in shared NBA/NHL arenas and why the atmosphere sucks. The first 5-10 rows of removable seats are relatively flat until you get to the permanent seats in the lower bowl.

Actually, both of these teams were done in by bad building situations, not lack of fan interest. In the case of AZ, Glendale wanted them to sign a 20 year lease extension on their arena without enough guarantees of upgrades, so they had to move out. Not 100% sure of the Thrashers, but it was a similar situation. The team and the building owners could not get together on a lease that worked for both parties. As far as the Flames were concerned, that was simply bad management from day one. The team generated no fan interest.

It's too bad that Calgary's new arena, which I like to call Rogers Garden, will be SMALLER than Edmonton's Rogers Place. Doubt it will draw better concerts than the condemned Saddledome has been offering over the last few years (cough Nickelback). There has been an unofficial sod turning for 'Rogers Garden'. It was to remove a 125 year old elm tree that was in the present parking lot. I guess Ottawa isn't as hockey crazy as I remember it back in the 1990's. It's too bad their arena (Shawarma Palace) along with Calgary (Rogers Garden) will be two of the SMALLEST buildings instead of being two of the largest buildings in the NHL. My interest in the NHL is declining more and more each video.
