Maremi SmallArt The piece that still worries me is this...If you check the box to say the video or channel is NOT for kids and the COPPA monitors decide your channel is for kids, you will be fined $42,000 PER VIDEO! I definitely think you should keep going but sign the petition and let people making the policies know what is really going to be affected. All we can do is follow the rules the best we can. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this.

Marta......if you have marked your whole channel as NOT for kids, but you said there were some videos that you think maybe are for kids, go back and mark those videos individually as for kids. We are all hoping that they will allow for us to have a third choice....the "mixed audience" choice, and then if so, hopefully won't lose your revenue.
@dianethoroughman95414 жыл бұрын
The FTC offers a third option. It is general for content that attracts kids and adults. That group would not be targeted. However, you tube refuses to offer this option because they would lose money on it. The you tubers that in my opinion should be worried is troom troom, 5-minute crafts, and blossem.

Marta I can feel your genuinity and passion for your channel when you talk. I'd be so heartbroken for you if anything happened to your channel knowing how much it means to you and your family, it is your life! Not to mention how important it is to us. I am glad you are relaxed about it now, Lucas was so great to calm you, it is great to have an other half with a calm head to calm your anxious mind 😊 I think you are absolutely right to stand by your choice. You shouldn't have to take the punishment or any other KZbinrs that aren't in any wrong just because the regulations have chosen such a fine line that I feel should absolutely be more looked into, and I do hope too that they are only using it as a scare but that causes so much unnecessary anxiety for KZbinrs like yourself who are unsure if they fall into those brackets or not. I hope they take more consideration and make the brackets more clear for KZbinrs to understand if they will be affected or not. And I really hope you and your family will not be affected by any of this. Please do keep us updated. Big hugs 💜💜💜💜💜💜

I agree with everything you said! When my hubby and I talked he said, "A vague law is an unpunishable law." And that is exactly right. There is actually middle ground with the COPPA stuff. I watched a video by someone who goes by the name Ian Corzine (your social media lawer.) He had a phone call from an insider close to upper management about that stuff. Within the law the wording states that there are exceptions for mixed audiences. YT was warned of that years ago but decided to only give creators 2 options. If you want the details look up the video "COPPA INSIDER UPDATE!! What more KZbin is HIDING."
@cindipatton16394 жыл бұрын
VERY interesting! Is this info being spread in the crafting community, I wonder? Given this new information, I think Marta (and a few other crafting KZbinrs) are right in thinking that their channels won't be targeted by the FTC and KZbin watchdog groups. They would fall under the "mixed" category of the law. Thank you for sharing. Marta needs to watch this video!

Well said,Marta! I totally agree with your stand in this matter. Also, As one of the other commentators said, parents are responsible for what their children view! As a parent and now as a grandparent, I monitor what my grandchildren watch on KZbin ,Television,etc. This is a PARENT’S RESPONSIBILITY. I’m so tired of parents( and companies) these days forever trying to shift their responsibilities onto someone or something other than themselves. Also, I feel KZbin is responsible for monitoring content, ( they are a media company), but not by punishing everyone who posts videos on their website, or to such extremes. There are bad people everywhere these days that do target children, so even more the reason parents need to be vigilant in monitoring what their children are exposed to. You can’t protect them from a lot of things outside your home, but a parent definitely can monitor what happens in their home! It seems so many people and companies these days are forever trying to shift their responsibilities, blame onto someone else instead of accepting and doing the right thing. Such a crazy, mixed up world we live in! So, keep doing what you’re doing- you bring so much pleasure and happiness to so many of us. 😊🦋

So good to hear you intend to carry on. Parents should hold the responsibility of what their children watch, it's all part of being a parent. Surely that's why there are parental locks. What about the adverts on the TV and cinemas, are they going to make the producers/directors of the programmes/films responsible for the adverts shown in the intervals. It seems crazy. Well done to Lukasz for being a voice of reason in all this for you. Take care

I know that many crafters are posting a disclaimer that they are not for kids they use products that may be harmful and tools that should not be used by children, such as scissors, cutters, hot glue etc. Unfortunately it does boil down to the govt trying to parent because too many people don't make themselves aware of what their kids are doing. It's scary, but I think it will work itself out.

Praying it all works out for you and the other amazing crafter's and creators out there. KZbin should consider their recommendations algorithms for all the nonsense that is recommended, not at all what we interested in - that is where kids could see things they might be curious about that is intended for adults, even simple innocent things like crafts for adults. Being positive crafter's will stay around for a long time.

Marta. I am with you. I am not worried any more. I was more worried about losing the interaction with viewers but there is so many other ways to connect. Also I have watched dozens of the COPPA videos and in the law there is actually a in between content base.... like us.... Where the content may be attracting kids but it is not intended for kids. KZbin decided not to add that option.... I think to cover their bums lol. I got a little worried but not any more. I enjoy creating videos and I barely make pennies lol so if I lose revenue that is ok for me. Big hugs!

I clicked not for Kids as well as not intended for those under 18 and was done with it. There are videos I've uploaded that straddle the line, involving animation (bad animation) I made, my art also has a lot of bright colors as well. I once got a copyright strike from SoundCloud for allegedly sampling another artist's music. So I immediately took the song down and then removed the video from youtube. It was never in my mind to steal from anyone, let alone another artist. So I'm with you on the not panicking point. I've done what I can do and we'll see what happens. Kids these days often know more about technology than their parents. They can easily tap the over 18 options on websites and easily turn off the parental controls. So this begs the question, 'how does KZbin actually monitor the activity world-wide without an algorithm?' They can't. KZbin is too big to not need help from technology to make things manageable. But technology isn't perfect. So obviously mistakes are made .

An eighteen year old grand-daughter got her first laptop when she was fourteen but did not have access to the family internet independently. She got her first smart phone for her eighteenth birthday. The children are all computer savvy and can navigate programs and games but always under supervision. That is the responsibility of parents/carers. I'm glad you plan to continue.

The issue actually is if a channel is set to Not Made for Kids and the powers that be deem it is. So we can have our opinion about our channels as much as we like, but if they see it differently it could be crunch time. This is where all the vagueness lies. And this is where us creators are left wondering.

To be fair this law should help parents....there are plenty of channels out there that look child appropriate at a glance, full of Disney and cute characters and the presenter starts cursing etc in the middle of it. Also even if a parent pre watches every video the ads would be different another time and could be inappropriate. I really don't think small craft channels are the worst offenders, but how else will big businesses be dealt with? KZbin is a great resource and it's about time more was done to protect people from unwanted content.

If my daughter was little and she had her own channel, I would let her stay for a while on KZbin move her slowly to the kids KZbin (maybe hold on the the channel and post a few times a year so she doesn't lose her subscribers) She could promote her kids channel on her KZbin channel. Because of the fact that KZbin kids is in a growing platform she could be 1 of the first little crafters and become an crafters influencer. That way she could try to earn some money. I think because it is so new for lots of people that she could take advantage of it. But that are my thoughts ofcorse. And I would only let my daughter do it if she really really liked to make "craft" videos. Ofcorse having fun stands before earning money.

Yes as Rite said make those vids private. You can always later bring them back.

good idea to look at the analytics, I looked also - depending on how the users are telling the truth to YT - of course, I have absolutely no views from young aged people (under 18) so that made me optimistic

I will definatly keep watching your video's. I am just a viewer and don't have any of my own video's on KZbin. I only have saved video's of other people's to watch later, I hope that is not on the radar list!

I can't imagine You Tube shutting down your channel. Even though your target audience is adults there is nothing bad or threatening to children. I know we have to protect our children, but as parents it is up to us to monitor what our children are watching. I have to say that I enjoy your channel very much and I would be sad to know you lost your channel. I think Lucas is right and I'm happy he helped you realize you don't need to worry.

That should read your videos not hour! Lol!

So please tell us as viewers if there is a behavior we can change to increase your ad income? Should we allow the ad to play longer before skipping? Your channel cannot be considered harmful to children or anyone else. The language of the statute needs to be clarified, and pressure needs to be put on legislators to do so. KZbin bailed out on this by putting all impetus on creators instead of assisting the community to refine language. We want children protected, clearly, but not this way. Glad to know your beautiful, loving heart will continue to reach across the Internet !

Marta, don't delete any of your videos. Just make them private. That way if things ever calm down with coppa and KZbin and that things get sorted out you can always bring that video back.

I used a scan tool to check if my channel is considered as made for kids and the result was not intended for kids...but who knows, I am really curious about what will happen. I am not intending my content for kids, not targeting them as the audience. I think family, crafts and other diy should not be marked as made for children, I read and tried to understand the rules. We can't do anything for now, I am really happy about their change and decision to protect children online, there are tons of channel that make tons of money from cartoons, animations watched by the most vulnerable, unprotected

Geez, sounds like they are shifting all responsibility onto the content creators rather than owning up to the fact that they are a media company! Not fair. I think it all has to do with your intention. Early on, your channel did not feature your children and I think you have plenty vids to show if they ever wanted you to prove it! Maybe next time Emily is on you introduce it as a parent- supervised craft to emphasize the point?
@MaremiSmallArt4 жыл бұрын
Good idea 💡 💙🙏

Unfortunately making that statement about "parent-supervised craft" may well open Maremi up legally to the very thing she wants to avoid - targeting children. It's a slippery slope.

My Sweet Marta, I hope these new rules and regulations will not affect your channel. I watch all of your videos and have learned so much from you. These new changes are so very confusing. I've watched other videos from other artists and I'm trying to understand exactly what is going to happen. My greatest hope is that it will not affect your channel because there would be a big void in my life if you no longer had your channel. xoxoxo

I agree with you I don’t think your channel is intended for children. I would imagine most of your subscribers are adults, mostly women who want to learn mixed media crafting. I wouldn’t worry about it. Thank you for all your videos! Keep crafting!

I’ve been wondering how these new rules would work on an administrative level. The COPPA rules are American and KZbin is an American Company but content creators are all over the world. Would a non-US based KZbinr really be liable for an American fine? What about similar types of laws in other jurisdictions? Would a content creator need to bear all of these in mind as well? I think that would be impossible. Many of us have enough trouble doing what is correct just in our own countries. Anyhow, I think Lucas is one of the few voices of sanity in this topsy-turvy world. Yay Lucas! Marta, if we ever lost you on KZbin, we’d organize a group tours of West Cork to watch you LIVE. All 200,000+++ of us! 😂

Betty Graham KZbin can shut their channels down completely. Fines can come out of their money they earn if they sign the contract to keep being a creator.
