An update about what I'm thinking of doing with this channel.

Well Pixar's not going to hire me any time soon but I think it works well enough for the occasional insert. (Please tell me if you know ways to make it better!) I'm currently about 80% done animating the new video and about 60% done rendering it, so it will definitely be out by the end of the month.

Saw it last night! It’s the best video I’ve ever watched… I’ve never met someone who was actually able to answer the question of how does a computer work, down to the very basics of how storing data works. This takes the magic away from computers… but also opens a whole new world of understanding how they function. Thank you so much! I’m not sure i would’ve ever found this answer before.

The discussion of why quantum computing is over-hyped can still be really interesting! Personally I'm intrigued by why elliptic curve cryptography is "quantum-proof" and what that means, and would love to watch a video on that topic.

Yea quantum-proof is a funny word cause no problem can be shown that it cannot be solved fast. However, I guess he means it's np-complete which would very stroncly imply that.

I just wantred to address this: ECC is not generally quantum resistant. Lattice based schemes among others are typically considered quantum resistant though. (Most of) ECC still relies the hardness of the DLP,, and quantum computers can solve the DLP quickly. I'm sure there are some algorithms utilizing elliptic curves that are thought to be quantum resistant, but classical ECC is vulnerable to quantum computers.

@@JoshsHandleHow do you get the smooth edge filter on the dog? Is it a second mesh with a volumetric shader and Fresnel cutoff or something easier to render? Edit: found your response to this question. A lot of people sleep on blender's compositor; crazy what effects you can get with it beyond the dof and color correction most people use it for.

Can you do a video on the details of what the RT cores in nVidia RTX cards actually _do?_ Any info either handwaves away the details, or is really densely packed technical documents. I came across your raytracing video when researching the technology. Despite being 30 minutes long, it felt like only a few minutes. Good content.

Excited for all of this (well, tbh I'm not too excited for the music video, but I may still enjoy it). Just, my pet peeve is videos about infinity that don't know what they're talking about well enough, which then mislead people, so please take care to do your research with that one. (I've seen three different math youtubers state something wrong about infinity in like the past month)

What are some common mistakes you see that I should make sure to avoid?

Here are things that are true which I've seen messed up multiple times 1. ℵ1 is not "the cardinality of the reals" (unless you're talking about assuming the Continuum Hypothesis) 2. Just because the idea of cardinality/one-to-one correspondences exists doesn't mean "half the counting numbers are even" is wrong. 3. Just because ∞ in calculus/analysis doesn't really have interesting arithmetic, doesn't mean there's no way to do arithmetic with (other) infinite quantities. 4. "Hyperreal fields" don't just let you do anything you want with ∞, and there's not just one field of "the hyperreals".

( i kind of know this answer, it's just.. the issue i think people get stuck on. the quantum entanglement video probably implicitly describes what is more complex, but i think a lot of people might just be like 'ok its an object with 2 properties' and not understand that whats complex is that this is a real thing and very different from, well, the binary impulses/signals we understand now. it's not just a way to program weirdly that somehow is sciency, but like fundamentally a different thing. probably overhyped thing, but with uses for specific things, especially simulations and predictions i guess? )

Did you render this in Cycles or Eevee, and if you did it in Cycles, how did you achieve the toon style line art around the dog inside of cycles? I've got a process for Eevee locked down but I've been struggling to a find a good looking way to create it in Cycles.

This is Cycles, I do the outline in the compositor. The setup is like: 1. Have a render layer that renders the primary image. 2. Have a render layer that just renders the depth of your character with a single sample. 3. Use this node setup: drive.google.com/file/d/1SRgqT-YA7hcKBanhd54b9qYjAixoocf5/view?usp=share_link (Basically it finds pixels that are close to the dog in terms of x/y coordinates but are far away in terms of the z coordinate.) 4. Use a color ramp to select which range of differences to outline. For this video, I put a black color stop at 0.03 and a white one at 0.26. 5. Optionally use an extra dilate node set to one pixel followed by anti-aliasing for a nicer outline. 6. Use that to mix between your original image and a black color.

In regards to the hadamard transform, for a non complex abstraction this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJC1mqSgmc1lpa8 had an adequate explanation from my perspective, you can see in its thumbnail it’s just a reflection around θ=π/8, which is quite intuitive however for the I’ve never seen a really intuitive explanation of and quantum computing which includes imaginary components

I haven't looked at the entire video yet, but it looks like they are using the same model I used in my single-qubit video, which unfortunately doesn't remain intuitive when multiple qubits are involved.

Some algorithms that run on a regular computer have faster versions that also run on regular computers. Despite this, they may not have an even faster quantum version.
