Future record carp? UK's biggest 3-year-old fish

We visited RH Fisheries in Shropshire to see the netting of a stock pond containing 300 'Big Rig Babies'. These fish were spawned from Big Rig, the giant mirror which weighed over 70lb but was denied an official British record. Her offspring are now 3.5 years old and some of them are over 20lb...

Always been stockies the old days they were stocked at 6 to 8oz left to grow on in club lakes but people want instant big fish .New carp anglers have got it spoilt for choice not like us who started course and proper carp fishing in the late 70s.God an 15lber in club lakes in the 70s early 80s was a great carp now we get them for fun on feeder rods lol.

@@paulfranciosi647 Thing is mate the banks are now full of folks wanting to land bigger and bigger fish. I started fishing for carp in the mid 80s and I remember been only one of a few carp fishing, its hole lot different now. They are not the sort of fish I like to land and I do not like fishing well stocked waters but its becoming the norm and no matter how sad that is its not going change.

@@markmason13 when I started course fishing in 77 loved it and started fishing in matches in 1979 I always looked for the bigger fish but I got my 1st 3lb mirror carp and thought it was huge lol ever since that carp in 79 I've been a carp obsessive but I still love fishing for all course fish commercial venues are here to stay .Don't get me wrong I fish these places and had a great time .I've seen some big changes in carp fishing from tackle to big fish venues when I started carp fishing I think there was only a few dedicated carp anglers in the northeast myself obviously included.But big fish venues are here to stay I still prefer a more wild venue but I won't turn my nose up to a decent nice looking place.

My pb of 30lb 10 oz I caught in 1998 it was an original stocky from the early 70s what I would call a propa original fish one to be proud of ,my 30lb er beats a frankenstein fish any day

To be fair anyone that says they prefer old english style carp yet then go and fish in France each year are being hypocritical of these fish. These are the same lumps that are reared in 99% of french lakes. I can see that Rob is still hell bent on getting that British Record. At least he is going about it the right way this time.Yes,they are Big Rigs Babies but he is growing them from eggs fair and square. They will have to go into lakes soon though otherwise he runs the risk of having any potential records refused due to waiting too long to stock the carp to continue to grow naturally.These fish will reach record weights faster than other carp and it is only a matter of time before one of these brutes goes over 60lb. It is like fishing for french style carp but in the UK.

Us old timer carp anglers from the 70s were lucky to get upper doubles now it's all about super large carp and money and sponsorships and wanting to be famous.I would still fish for them but I would rather catch a carp that's been stocked at 6 to 8oz left to grow naturally or off natural spawning.20 to 30yr old big un imagine the stories that could tell.

These fish won’t grow old... I’ll give them 10years max... They will grow themselves to death. And these obese fish depend on the food anglers will give them, because they don’t know how to find naturals the way a wilder (younger introduced and not fed) carp will. So 3 years after introducing them to a lake they will probably have no mouth left because of the fact they are caught so often. Nice carp to look at, impressive breeding if you look at the way they grow. But i personally don’t believe this is the way forward.

Should stock fish living in ponds getting big before stocking be allowed to be regarded as a record when it's stocked huge or put in a lake at a few ounces or off natural spawning.Alot it's all about money.

I don’t think it’s a fair uk record when there bred and kept heavily fed until there close to it and then released. They should be released at a very young age just like other fish. I think the way these fish have been selectively spawned and reared it shouldn’t count what so ever. It’s cheating, I don’t care if they stock there own lakes and if people want to catch them, each to there own but none of these fish should count for a uk record

RH and VS certainly have differing approaches. We did a video with Simon Scott at VS last year and we spoke to him last week so we might well do another in 2020. Some anglers and fisheries will undoubtedly prefer the VS way, and some will prefer the RH methods and results.

Think fisheries should be more transparency regarding stocking levels. I understand it’s a business But there is also due of care unto be honest of stock levels. Thorpe lea is a perfect example of it.

Israeli fish sound very dodgy, isn't that where f1's came from, i think they are genetically modified fish, it's completely unnatural for a species not to be able to reproduce like they are. I would like to know for sure exactly where this new strain comes from, because I'm not sure Israel have been straight about it in the case of f1 fish, with noteworthy ties to America it all seems a bit dubious to me.

Never seen so much hate & moaning about what does/doesn’t count....fishery owners are expected to stock small numbers of slow growing scaley fish into lakes that know one can fish until they’re 30 years old, so they can become character fish? People need to get a grip of reality, fish were only neglected long enough to become that way because there wasn’t anywhere near so many anglers & they had to go out of their way to find them...them days are over. Get over it.
