Alpha Array... a stand alone monolith in a desert few had heard of, let alone seen. It was more a rumour than anything else and only an old guard soldier or two knew exactly what it was. I can still recall the gruff voice and wry smile. 'Alpha array is what you call it now.... we who fought there knew it as the Tannhäuser Gate.'

I love the perspective that older generations described space as the unknown filled with either riches(Star Trek) or terrors(Lovecraft), but nowadays people who are into space ambient descibe it as peaceful. A testament to how much we hate the society today. And the failure that is civilization.

As the fleet neared the coordinates of the distress signal, a re connection of sorts was finally achieved. The signal was weak and still very unstable. Broken fragments of message started to be received. At first, it was not decipherable, but the message appeared to repeat, fortunately. The message became more complete, as the fleet entered the periphery of the star system. Our blood collectively ran cold once we successfully decoded the message - 'For the love of God, you're too late! ... Stay ... Away!'

Eerie, unsettling tones fade in, evoking a sense of unease and growing dread. Distant, distorted static crackles intermittently, hinting at fragmented transmissions from an unknown source. A slow, pulsing rhythm emerges from the murky sonic depths, like the heartbeat of some colossal, dormant beast. Ghostly whispers and indecipherable voices weave in and out of the mix, their messages just beyond the grasp of understanding. The layered soundscape builds in intensity, swelling with foreboding atmosphere and cinematic tension. Urgent alarms and glitchy electronic sounds punctuate the droning ambience, warning of impending danger. The music crescendos to a fever pitch before cutting off abruptly, leaving only an oppressive, cloying silence in its wake. The soundtrack perfectly captures the hopelessness and horror of receiving a devastating message too late.

Domitia brought the Iron Steed to a halt. The roar of the ion engine fading into a soft murmur as she brought her grav-bike to a halt. The, Liminal Beacon glew a warm red, like embers in a flame, past it, and beyond this planet's atmosphere, the looming gas giant peers over the scene like a curious deity. The bike lands, the bellator releases the neural plugs, allowing her to dismount the Iron Steed. Carefully she approaches the beacon, Ion lance powered, her free hand resting on her hand cannon. "He there?" Dell chimes in, "Can't see anything...." "Not a soul..." Domitia slowly circles the drop point, the muck sticking to her sabatons as she ambiles. A shape sits slumped against the steel monolith, Domitia keeps her lance fixed on the figure as she closes with it. Smoke rises from the resting figure, hands splayed out around him, head held back, the face behind the visor badly burned and locked in an eteneral screech. "Fuck..m he got fried." Dell mumbles, the comm adding static to his words. "He got what we need?" Domitia looks over the corpse, finding a case sat alongside him. She carefully picks it up. Balancing it upon her lance, she opens it, finding the promised payment. "Last time we work with Mikila Arms I guess." Domitia grumbles. "Yeah, damn, didn't even let us say goodbye... check his suit, fucker owes me a twenty."
