4 жыл бұрын

Copenhill, the sports facility featuring a Neveplast ski slope located on the roof of the new waste-to-energy plant in the heart of Copenaghen, officially opened to the public on October 4th . Special guest and Italian star Kristian Ghedina, from Cortina d’Ampezzo, attended the inauguration to ‘test’ the ski slope. The ski facility consists of three slopes of different difficulty levels, two conveyor belts, and a ski lift which provide an opportunity to enjoy skiing and snowboarding 365 days a year.

I think that was deliberate to draw more attention to it by being green. Obviously these people testing it, are expert skiers, I seriously doubt someone who never skied before, can learn good enough on this artificial snow slope, to then be able to smoothly transition to skiing on real snow. There are many types of snow (powder, wet snow), ice and other factors when skiing on real snow slopes. It reminds me of learning how to hit a golf ball on a driving range. I thought I was pretty good because I could hit the golf ball well at the range. But then out of the golf course I was terrible, it was a differrent experience with uneven terrain, hitting out of the rough, etc.

@@jansa940 it helps, you learn the movements of skiing. Snow is a lot more slippery, so a beginner ski slope is a lot less steep and will have a different feel, but it still helps. Learning on artificial snow will reduce hours or days of flailing around as a beginner.

It's not like hard packed snow is easy on your behind or elbows when you crash. That said the problem with this surface is that the heat kind of damages your skis, or it used to be so. Many resorts, and they have them in America too (Buck Hill, Minnesota), have an irrigation system that cools off your equipment and have installed chairlifts instead of using rope tow.

@@alvintillebeck9384 This is such a dumb comment tbh. It was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), an architectural firm. As always, with big projects like this, a final product is a combination of involvements from city/town planners, urban designers, architects, urbanists, engineers, as well as building firms. There is a lot of contractors in place. Negotiations, often lead and facilitated by a planning firm, also involve local government and/or city planning department members. The final product is a fruit of work of all those parties and to act like architects don't play a role in it is at least ignorant.

Idk what there is to doubt, but I mean it's not gonna be exactly like snow for obvious reasons. You're not gonna have those small bumps and grooves that form from snow being pushed around as skiers and snowboarders turn, so chances are it's gonna feel smoother. There might be a slight difference in friction between a board's base and the material they use, but overall, it looks really great and potentially promising

It needs resurfacing every year depending on how much it gets used obviously. But they lubricate the slope with silicon so it doesn't have that much friction. The ski's get very warm and the wax will melt away, but with wax you have to much friction anyways. Though they don't wear much from it, you only need to apply wax if you want to ski on snow again.

@erringman
@erringman 3 жыл бұрын
@@mgh62000 You are knowledgable about Scandinavia so that's all good. For those who don't know, the Skagerrak is a body of water, so DK and Norway share a maritime boundary and not a land border. It's a common misconception that Denmark is 'up there' with the other Nordic countries, while it is actually not geographically adjacent, it is down south next to Germany, and flat and muddy rather than mountainous or forested or fjorded or snowy, so it's that common misconception that I sought to correct. Saying they share a border is like saying China shares a border with Japan, France with the UK, or Australia with NZ - if you are comfortable with those ideas, then more power to you.
