On the trailer brakes: check the safety line that connects to the hitch. They are designed to lock the brakes if it detects the trailer comes off the hitch. Sometimes the detector switch needs to be replaced.

Check the emergency breakaway module. Most trailers come with a emergency module with a small cable that attaches to the bumper near the hitch. If the trailer unhitches itself down the road, it pulls the pin on the module and immediately sets the brakes. If you haven't been attaching that cable, they do still go bad and will engage the breaks. All you need to do is replace the module. Cheap easy fix. Good job finding crabs and a willing audience to buy. Wins always feel good.

It's probably a surge brake. The controller is part of the tongue on the trailer. When you step on the brakes an actuator in the tongue activates the brakes.

Check the tounge of the your trailer. You may have surge brakes wich rely on stopping presser on ball that then applys the hydrolic brakes. The harder you stop the more therailwr brakes are applied

Luke is just such a hard working young "child sized man" (bhwaaaahaaaahaaa) and funny self-deprecating guy, I am always rooting for him. Every time I see one of these, I remember fishing with Grandpa back in the 60's in Surf City, NC. There was a young couple from Maryland that just showed up as tourists on the super long pier there that is long gone from hurricanes. Folks back then actually just threw blue crabs off the pier because they were considered trash and they would eat your bait, so some guys would stomp on them, then kick them over..... This young couple (from Maryland) just screamed as they couldn't believe what they were seeing, went in and bought every cheap styrofoam cooler at the store there. They were getting about 2 bushels an hour FOR FREE which I guess was worth it. When they filled their van up, they left happy with over $100 of crabs in 1968 dollars and were only 4 hours from home......We hill folk had no use for them back then.......

Luke, your trailers brakes are electric they apply when you hit the brakes. There controlled when you hook up your trailer to the truck through the plug in. You should be able to adjust the brakes on the trailer. But unless you have a trailer brake controller put on the truck you can only adjust them by hand on the trailer. The controller let's you adjust them inside the truck while driving.

New favorite KZbin channel. So, if you have a 7 pin trailer plug most likely there is a brake circuit in there. A controller would be nice so they don’t lock up. You can get them aftermarket if the truck doesn’t have one.

Glad to see you're getting some time off. As for using the window A/C unit for cooling your trailer it can be done with no problems, but you will need to change or clean the filter more often and clean the coils more often.

Good to see your hard work pay off. BTW, you don't need a controller if you have electric over hydraulic or surge brakes. The trailer brakes engage when the truck brakes. You can add a controller to adjust.

Love your attitude and work ethic! Thinking about your trailer brakes, since you didn't see any braking device inside the cab, maybe your trailer has surge brakes built into the tongue coupler that receives the trailer ball. And someone already mentioned the small cable that comes out of the coupler to set the brakes if the trailer comes loose so make sure that it isn't set. Just trying to help. You probably already figured it out since I'm a month late in watching this video. Peace. Take care.

well i'm sure you figured it out. i'm late as always. so just realize the brakes started working - ck, and the trailer might have a battery fed Ebrake-ck, and your prob seemed to be that they started working. i'd say saltwater intrusion. but yeah, you need to make use of those trailer brakes. not urgent, not emergency. keep them rinsed off even though it doesn't go down into the surf. its probably saltwater - it kills locks erodes everything. i would find electric brakes on that trailer, since it seems that is the issue. the better option is hydraulic. but then reversing while uphill will cause it to compress the cylinder - i know you are smart enough to get that. good luck. you are killing it. at life. and you have a wife. so right there you have beat the hell out of life. good job. love it
