Hell, learning to boat in the Chesapeake Bay as a kid made for the safest boaters in the world because all we ever did was solemn through crab buoys all day. Spend one afternoon in murky water with a pair of wire snips trying to unwrap a crab trap full of live crabs from your propeller and you will become extremely aware of your surrounds from there on.
@pbrice12153 ай бұрын
Now you have the money guys running right through every line. Drunk sailboaters dragging hawks/bottom lines for miles. The Chesapeake has changed.
@n40tom3 ай бұрын
I boated on the Chesapeake for over 30 years the entire 200 miles of it and most all of the major tributaries . Thousands of hours power boating through all kinds of crab pots and not once did I ever pick one up in my wheels . Most times I had a boat with two props . I would imagine some of that was luck but more than luck was being cautious and aware of your surroundings. Take care and be safe
@justindeaton73013 ай бұрын
Our old boat, the one in my profile picture, wouldn’t pick up a crab pot no matter how hard you tried. Not sure if it was the step hull or what. You could center punch crab pot after crab pot while on plane and the buoy would just roll off the side and pop up behind us unscathed.

I’m from Louisiana and down here we love to eat soft shell crabs. My uncle is a crabber/shrimper and he will save crabs that are about to shed, and once they shed he sells them to the restaurants for a premium since people like soft shell crabs so much down here. I was just wondering if soft shell crabs are a big commodity up there as well?
