Does the damp comp have any way of reaction with different metals like magnalium or aluminum gerbs or do you have to put boric/benzoic acid in water .i no the magnesium can react with water moisture i actually done a test i put gram of magnesium in a cup with table spoon of water it took ages to react and start bubbling like 8hrs or more....the aluminum powder mix with black powder comp looks very cool in gerbs.i haven't got enough experience yet but could you possibly make one with zinc to see if it makes a nice color like you said i dont think copper oxide would work mayb worth a try aswell;)
@nedgorski6 жыл бұрын
No, the moisture will not react with aluminum or magnalium. We water-dampen comps containing those metals all the time for various purposes. Zinc stars are such a pretty color.

Your first option is ammonium perchlorate, but it may have a bit of chlorine gas, and the final option is nitrocellulose gerbs that are completely smokeless and odorless

hello ned, i have a question, i follow all steps but, my rockets make boom when try to takes off, what can be?, thanks
@jamesluck29695 жыл бұрын
Pressure is to much for the tube used. This can be from nozzle design, core design, and tube design. If your trying to use gerbs as rockets then the issue is the comp runs to strong. It could also be from slag clotting nozzle

I just had a gerb detonate. I wonder what I could have done wrong.
@nedgorski Жыл бұрын
Lots of possible causes: tube damaged in the construction, too small an aperture, clogged aperture, propellant not consolidated well, too hot a propellant, and maybe some others.
@rrketc2 Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your reply. Looking back, I think I overdid the increments on that one; i.e. I added too large amounts at each increment. Therefore, perhaps the ramming produced poor consolidation as you mentioned. Going forward, I'll take better care to add the composition in smaller amounts so each increment is well consolidated. That was one incredible blast! I felt the percussion wave.

Sounds like a plan, Fan. Good luck.@@rrketc2

So I can’t use my magnesium for any composition that’s supposed to be dampened?
@nedgorski6 жыл бұрын
Water and Mg don't play together well, yep. Mg can react with water producing heat and potential fire.
@sneakyviking25826 жыл бұрын
ned gorski alright, thank you for your response. I’ve had a hard time finding cheap magnalium in Sweden but I guess ill try again
@nedgorski6 жыл бұрын
@@sneakyviking2582 If you can get Mg and Al, then MgAl is fairly easy to make. There are online vids on the process of melting them together. Be careful, though.
@sneakyviking25826 жыл бұрын
ned gorski I just need to get the metals hot enough, but I’ve thought of trying that. Should the ratio be 50:50?
@nedgorski6 жыл бұрын
@@sneakyviking2582 50:50 is common. I've only done it once or twice, and one has to be careful to not have the Mg start burning. Good luck, and be safe.

Can I use iron and mg
@nedgorski3 жыл бұрын
Iron would corrode quickly, so use the composition and gerbs fairly quickly after mixing and making. Mg is very sensitive to any moisture/water, so I don't use it, and don't recommend it.

Could Sparks be created if you use a wooden rammer? Btw. Very informative Video. Greets, SP
@nedgorski6 жыл бұрын
Probably not, but if you whack a sparking-metal-containing comp hard enough, there is the possibility of the metal particles creating a spark just between themselves. Probably not, but best to be careful.

Beautiful and I'd guess that these are even better in real life! I agree, FeTi gave the most beautiful effect. Loved the sound of the MgAl. Been looking around and found the Indian version of metal gerbs called "Tubri". kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnS2iI2kpbtgZtk They use Al as the metal and NaNO3 as oxidizer, which gives these gerbs an intense yellow color. They push the comp. in ceramic pots. Probably hell to make these in a wet climate. U.
