What makes Travis special is the fact that he is an independent. If he worked for Riot he would lose some of his current freedom and ability to be critical of Riot's decisions.

I agree 100%. But I guess he will keep doing them even if they don't pay him, so there is no reason for them to hire him.

watch the interview to echo fox, she is starting to get good.

I'm pretty sure he turned down an offer by riot. I remember when he first become completely independent, he said ovilee abandoned him to work at riot jokingly so they were probably both offered positions there

I remember when i first started watching professional league, back in 2015 maple always caught my eye, i saw some great talent in that guy. He is definitely one of the best mid laners i've seen, period. Reminds me of Westdoor, but a more well rounded player.

It seems that you're trying to ask if they like the 170 seats studio and I'm not sure if they (players or translators) are getting it. Or maybe they aren't allowed to talk about it. I think all the players that you interviewed on this #2 day would be REALLY hyped if there were more people cheering. Great job, man!

As a Taiwanese who understands what he says I gotta say his translations are not 100%on point...he translates the big picture but misses out some details. I don't wanna take credit from the guy seen him translate for quite a while and seems like a hard working great guy, but he doesn't translate according to original. For example the question about ads getting the spotlight and midlaners keeping a low profile, travis then asked why are they not talking about the mid laners and should they be talking about mid laners more. In Max's translation he just asked the first half and didn't translate "should they be talking about mid laners more". On the other hand when he translated back to English, Maple's answer was "In the meta of the past few years, the focus has been on bot lanes, because they can easily influence the everything of the game, so mid laners are just like the Coolie" while Max translated "ads"are the focus of game for the "past few metas" ...."when it gets to late game" while Maple did not mention the word late game at all. and then stick to hard work and "not being noticed", Maple only said hard work and not that. also like when travis asked if winning MSI would mean anything to FW and does he think they can do it, Max just asked if it would be meaningful for them and didn't ask if he thinks they can do it. You get the idea, basically thats what happens with his translations. Gotta say they miss out some stuff.

As a fellow worker in the Esports industry whose done interview translations, it's absolutely true. We don't meticulously pick word by word from X language and translate it to Y language. Rather, it's much better and cleaner to summarize the specifics and keep the translations as succinct as possible. I voice this opinion since from my experience it tends to be easy to lose track or even remotely remember every single word that needs translated on the spot without any "hmm's or uhmms" interrupting the flow of the interview. In addition, since translating can be mentally stressful, some words either get missed out or exchanged with complimentary words to avoid any hiccups mid sentence.

Well I think the translation from ”Coolie 苦力“ to "not being noticed" is actually quite accurate. I don't know if Max is a professional translator but I think there is no doubt that he's doing a very nice job. He understands the game, no hesitation, fluent in both languages and very confident. I do like to point out that the words he's using in both language is pretty good, a lot of words that he's using is not just direct translations, he actually processes them and turn them into phrases that could let the both sides of audiences to understand easily. There's no point to ask someone to do 100% accurate job on simultaneous interpreting without a draft or something. For me, he's a perfect translator for the players & fans. Great job Max!

Yes i totally understand that on the spot translation can be stressful and hard to keep track when the response is longer, so I would not say he is doing a bad job of it. And I respect also that he is keeping it fluent without any "uhms or hmm" which would indeed ruin the viewer's experience. I personally did some translation for business transactions so i guess that's why i emphasis it to be exactly true to the original meaning.
@True1323jl6 жыл бұрын
I just want to point out this because imo some of the meaning would be misunderstood, such as metas in the last few years becoming the last few metas, or while people are curious if they think they can win or not Maple didn't actually receive the question. But yeah I shouldn't be that strict on this and I respect that keeping the flow is also very important.
@christhehell406 жыл бұрын
Yeah I understand how this works, have seen some interpreters working in business occasions as well. Usually to improve the precision of translation, translators would need to at least make some notes to help them memorize that much of contents. But this will make them look too funny and strict that just wouldn't fit.

it’s pretty inaccurate when he translates from English to Chinese but when he translate from Chinese to English it’s not that bad
