I'm a math and science teacher. Years ago I had a student that brought in a Casio calculator. Up until then I'd use HP and Texas instrument calculator, and I didn't realize how bad they were until I saw how good the casios were. I make all my students switch over which is easy since in addition to being much better calculators they are usually cheaper. The only thing that you have to watch out for is if you're the only kid in the class with this a calculator, there's a good chance some other kids in the class will want to steal it after they see how good it is.

When you select the FACT function to show the prime factors of a number, if the answer is in parentheses it does not mean that the number is prime, it means that there are no 3-digit prime factors of the number (the maximum it checks for). For example, if you enter 1018081 FACT, the answer shown is (1018081), even though 1018081 = 1009 X 1009.

The limited distribution choices show why no non-programmable scientific calculator will replace a programmable one. If you have a programmable calculator, you can build in any sort of distribution. On my Casio FX-9860gii SD, for example, I have Planck distribution, Students T distribution, Boltzmann distribution, logistic distribution, in addition to the distributions (e.g. normal) that came packaged as calculator functions.

It does have an engineering mode. The ENG key and shift ENG key (just above the 8 key).

It does have an engineering key but it only works in computation mode. When I go into equation mode and want to convert my answer(s) into engineering mode when I am doing mesh analysis using simultaneous equations, when I hit the ENG button, nothing happens. Both the TI-36XPRO and Sharp w516x will let me do this. The Casio won't. Other than that, a great calculator.

Yes. I have all three also. There is no such thing as the 'perfect calculator.' That is why most math & calculator lovers usually have several. I like the 36XPRO's statistical layout and capability. LIke you said however, the Sharp has more matrix capability than the 36XPRO or the Casio F115ES Plus. I like the inequality feature on the Casio .These are the three most powerful non- graphic calculators. If you could only have one, it would be a hard choice.

Well I don't know if you will find a use for it either, but if you read the manual on page E25 ( E means English page ) under Complex Number Calculations ( CMPLX ) you will notice they are using it. I don't understand what it is saying, but that's where it is. Bob

This is a good calculator, but I'm waiting for something like this that will do fast Fourier transforms of data in a list variable and output the result to another list variable. And likewise do convolution with matrices: transform the rows, transform the columns, multiply the result by a 2-dimensional normal distribution, then de-transform the columns, de-transform the rows, and display the convolved matrix. Useful for signal processing and modeling noise like aperture diffraction.

The graphing calculators - so the fx-9750GIII, fx-CG50, fx-CG500 and previous models of those. But they are just going to be more like a thumb drive. It doesn't show the calculator, just files you created. You need Emulator software to actually see the calculator and work with it on a screen and then take screen shots and print/email. There is emulator software for the following scientific: fx-300ES, fx-115ES, fx-991EX and then for the graphing calculators as well.

Love the recurring decimal function and don't understand why most calculators don't have it. Although I still cannot get this calculator to do e^pi x I in complex mode...my sharp 516x gives -23.xxxxxi and my ti-83plus and HP 35s give the correct answer of -1 but this one just gives math error......

The Canon F-792SGA has 648 built in functions with a special price of only $5.99 on Amazon. The fx-115ES Plus is great but the Canon gives a little bit more.

This is such a good calculator. I've been using it for about 2 years now in engineering school. I have the 36x, 2 lower models from TI, a Ti-84, and an HP Prime with CAS. I almost always reach for this first. The UI is superior to the 36x's. It is just more intuitive. I wish the complex mode had a method to compute the magnitude, though.

So, how do I use this calculator to solve an equation (using the / sign in fractions), -1/9 (x-27) + 1/3 (x+3) = x - 59 Is there a way to find the solution {_} set using this calculator?

Press the (/) fraction sign and fill in the numbers -1/9. Then parenthesis, then ALPHA button then the red X minus 27 parenthesis (Any time you need the X click the ALPHA button). This gives you -1/9(x-27). Now hit the ADDITION sign then do the same thing again using the ALPHA button where needed for 1/3(x+3). Then hit the ALPHA then "=" sign. Then Hit ALPHA then X, then the minus sign then type in 59. At the end hit the SHIFT button, then the SOLVE button. Then it will say "Solve for X" with the answer for X at the bottom. If you hit the equal sign button, you will see X= [answer] near the bottom. So, there you go. Good luck. Or you can just patiently watch the video to see how to do it.
