I bought the Impact MKII based on You Tube Reviews. It was nothing but trouble. To say it was pellet fussy was an understatement. I found its favorite food was Air Arms Fields but that was still a lottery between tins (even of the same batch). Compared to my Daystate huntsman Revere it was just not as accurate EVER. I tried barrel stiffeners and Barrel tuners but nothing ever seemed to get it better. I polished the barrel liner which did seem to make a difference at first before quickly going back to random. I believe that there is some issue with the barrel design when shooting sub 12FPE. Most guns need to lead in. I find the FX needs cleaning about every 25 shots to maintain accuracy. On top of all that I had loads of trouble with Reg creep and did my own DIY dual reg mod before the MKIII was released. About the best thing about the FX was it kept me busy during lockdown. I know the inside of the rifle intimately now. The thing is I have owned the Revere almost as long and the only time its had tools near it was to mount a scope. Thats got to tell you something. I went FX because I was a big fan of the Axor back in the day but it seems FX build is not as good as FX design.

Sorry to hear your troubles and frustration! A couple of thoughts... the cocking lever has a friction detent ( required for some completions to stop the lever from closing) this could be too tight. Don't have my Panthera yet but the trigger looks similar to my Impact. I broke the lok-tite seal on a screw when adjusting the trigger and forgot to re-apply it - the trigger went out of adjustment with use and lost the first stage. Could be something similar with yours. I'd recommend checking the velocity with a chronograph to be sure that it's stable. The Panthera is a high power airgun designed for 30-40 grain slugs, I'm surprised that it can be adjusted to sub-12 levels. I think of that like running a 4 cylinder engine with only one spark plug. Could be awkward. When I saw your groups (sorry: patterns) the first thing that jumped to mind was that it was a scope problem. Seen that before. It could be that your scope is adjusted too far out and the erector tube is "floating" or not being retained securely. Cheers!
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments Hank. The Panthers has been returned now and I’m going to wait to see if they fix some of these issues. Also I chronographed it and in my opinion the regulator could have been doing a better job. Also I don’t think the scope was the issue; if it was fine at say 25 yards, I had plenty of clicks to get to 40 yards and beyond.

My M3 and my Maverick did the same thing with the first stage not bouncing back the trigger is just out of adjustment, I adjusted mine it was fine after that, but you shouldn't have to mess with it being new.
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
You’re right, a brand new rifle shouldn’t have to do that. Worse thing is that the UK instructions said that due to liability there’s no way to adjust the pull/1st/2nd stage, unless done by a dealer. I forget the exact wording but when the trigger went wrong, first thing was to look at the instructions and was disappointed to read that.
@jeffojibway9284 Жыл бұрын
I talked to a tech at FX USA about that exactly he told me adjusting it wouldn’t effect the warranty and that my trigger was probably not adjusted correctly at the factory. I agree it’s not right for a new gun though.

I related to a video this morning about buying a rifle that you have high hopes for and then have to return it, the thing about it is if people have the opportunity to test the rifle out maybe at a gun show or something then you can make a final decision as to if you want to keep the rifle or not, but when it ships to you and then you tested and you don't like it, some manufacturers may not want to refund you for the raffle because you already had it in your possession, this is what I am afraid of.😅

Great video. Gutted thinking of getting one my self. Do you think the pellets are getting damaged in the breech?
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Honest answer is I don’t know. It tried to omit magazine error by loading pellets direct into the barrel, as FX mags are notorious for not being great. The new lids do show the slightest bit of play in the breach when loaded, so there could be an indexing issue. But based on my chrono results, I think the reg isn’t as good as it can be; I’ve got other rifles even unregulated which are shooting more consistently shot by shot. It’s such a shame because I really wanted this rifle to be perfect based on all the vids on KZbin. Oh well. :(

Have you checked the screw on top that adjusts the locking tension of the cocking lever? Some have checked screws after buying, and thinking it's a loose screw tighten it down causing issues with the cocking lever. Not sure if that's your issue, but a thought.

They are made to fine tune and use slugs in them. You have to tune it while using a chrony. You need some info somewhere or online or a professional air rifle shop on tuning the new Panthera. I've seen them shoot near hole in hole at 100m and alot farther out. Note.. the 500mm barrels are made and sent out from factory with pellet barrels already on them. 600mm and up come factory with the heavy liner slug barrels on them. So if you have a 500mm version, it will shoot hole in hole with pellets after proper tuning. Check into that friend! I don't know about UK sub 12 rifles. Prolly have to tune them to properly. Or go back to the Crown which is superior from the start. In these crazy times I will say, the pandemic has caused havoc on newer rifles developed and made! I've had many defective units. Before these crazy times were in, I've gotten flawless units! If in doubt send it back!
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what I did. I sent it back twice because it wasn’t tuned properly. The sun 12 versions don’t have the full features of the high powered version, so you can only increase/decrease the air flow, but you can’t adjust the hammer spring tension. I hope the flaws are sorted for the MK II

This looks exactly like the problems I have with my 10J Benjamin Marauder in .177. (Here in Sweden you need a license for anything above 10J.) The only pellet I could shoot sub 20mm on 30 meters are the JSB Exact 4.53s, and that's the only pellet I ever found in 4,53 mm. I'd happily test 4,54 and 4,55 but they do not exist. The only way I got some precision out of it was to run low reg-pressure, like maybe 60 bar (I retrofitted a Lane regulator), and make sure the hammer strikes as softly as possible without loosing accuracy, avoiding any blowing on the pellets once they leave the barrel. The Marauder and the Panthera are both designed for high power, and in the case of Marauder the .177 barrel was kind of thrown in there to give us the option, while all the high praise reviews are done in higher power and with bigger calibers. You might have run into the same problem. The panthera is probably made for .22 and up.
@Brunosdad Жыл бұрын
If it wasn't for the cocking lever and first stage trigger I would of tried giving the barrel a good clean to see if that improves its accuracy but obviously it needs returning, hopefully 3rd time lucky if you decide to try another panthera.

@luappaintball Жыл бұрын
Hi, have you checked out a channel called Sub12 Airgunners? They purchased a Panthera and had all the same issues regarding accuracy etc. There was many things they have now rectified from swapping over to a fixed barrel, re enforcing the front rail, did work on the magazine as it was damaging the skirts on pellets and have sorted the trigger. It’s now a totally different rifle. Of course a high end gun like this shouldn’t need all this work done which most people wouldn’t be able to do. It’s not on for a £1850 rifle. Anyway was shooting at 35 yards using JSB Exacts 8.44 and was getting pellet on pellet single hole groups. It was that good I’m buying it next week. Sorry you had to return yours, as I said not good enough for the money.
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Hi there. I did see the overview Sub12Airgunners did and yes he did have all the same issues. However he had to go to lengths to rectify the issues which should not be present on a rifle that costs nearly £2k. I mean, swapping the FX barrel for an Air Arms HFT500 barrel...why isn't the Panthera's barrel good enough as is? Also having to file down the interior of the mags; that says a great deal aboout quality. Also the trigger...Don't get me started on the trigger! Sub12airgunners is super skilled and knowledgable and has the know-how to sort out issues like this, but for Joe public having spent a large amount of money on a rifle like this, they should not have to have these issues that need this level of sorting. My advice is unless you're able to perform the same level of work to sort out the Panthera, I'd wait until a MK2 comes out and it's backed by non-bias good reviews.
@luappaintball Жыл бұрын
@@zubysan - Hi, I completely agree with everything you have said, I would have done as you did and taken it back for a full refund. Not good enough. Hi zubysan, greatings from Portugal. Wich is the regulator pressure? That apears to me that is a tuning issue. Pellets became destabilized, probably due to excess air out of the barrel. Do you tryed shoot with other pressures? Like 90 bar? How is the fps?
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Hi. I left the pressure at 75bar and even tried a muzzle break like I said in the video. It’s a shame that something was wrong with not one but two rifles, so it goes to show that there’s teething issues on release, which should ideally be tested more thoroughly beforehand.

Just like the last gentlemen stated, barrel issues. Come to think of it, I had the same problem with my crown when I first brought it but they solved and that was 2 years ago and touchwood been great since. Back to the Impact, it had reg problems and barrel problems, I personally dont think FX do a great job for the UK market as we probably dont buy as many as the do in the states. Therefore also to mention the fact that there aren't that many great airsmiths that can sort the FX's out in the UK just a handful of chaps that are independant for their own use. SGC, definately not great. It took them 24 weeks to send my rifle back to me! For the time being, the Impact seems ok. Hopefully, no more issues. Only got it back last week since April 2023. Sorry mate but you do come across that you do not really understand what your doing. It won’t fire every pellet of every brand well, air rifles just dont. Other than parallax error I can’t see an issue. Be scientific and shoot two rifles back to back and record the results and ditch the hawke scope.
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Steve. Just to confirm that I’m fully aware that air rifles don’t fire every brand of pellet and they can be pellet fussy; which is why I tested it against the mainstream and normal go-to selection of pellets I picked to see how it does. Almost all of my other rifles are good with JSB’s for example, and if not, I’ve found QYS is the next go to. As for parallax error, in the video I didn’t go into the fine detail of how I shot, but I was fully aware of parallel being a factor when I tested, which is why I used the front forward screw of the cheek piece as a reference when I placed my cheek against the rifle, to then stay still and shoot the 22 shots from the magazine (in most of the test sheets). It is most frustrating whilst keeping deadly still, even using a Precision Target Rest to help omit shooter error, to watch a group of 5 pellets that the rifle likes go in completely different places on the sheet.
@Steve-bo6ht Жыл бұрын
Check your silencer it looks like it could be clipping try to unscrew the end cap of the silencer and inspect the baffles and the wadding and you'll probably fined small shavings of lead. Also ask your nearest gun shop if it's possible to put the rifle through the chrono as the power could be inconsistent between shots that can lead to non grouping accuracy.

I stopped using the silencer after one target sheet of pellets. As for the regulator, I did chrono it here and recorded 2 x 44 shot groups and 1 x 115 shot group. Here’s the results of that group and I used QYS 9.56g 4.49 pellets: Notes: test 3 - QYS 9.56g 4.49 Shot count: 115 Low: 692 Hi: 725 Avg: 715 Spread: 33 STD Dev: 6.8 720 699 704 699 709 702 706 718 709 699 718 706 723 723 716 720 725 720 720 713 720 718 713 716 725 716 713 716 716 702 720 716 716 720 720 711 723 718 711 716 709 706 716 718 720 725 713 713 709 718 723 723 725 716 713 709 720 718 718 711 711 706 720 723 706 716 711 711 720 706 711 718 716 711 692 723 718 723 723 720 704 718 711 713 718 716 716 725 725 711 709 723 720 706 713 713 711 711 711 718 713 718 711 713 723 702 704 723 716 720 716 718 716 713 704

Hi, I shoot at Atherton indoor range. I am sorry to say my Reximex Mito pistol with rifle stock fitted will embarrass that. I shoot with Duanne, I shoot Shitfires out of the Mito up to 40 yards. Which gives way better groups than that of a tripod. Mine was £405.00, how much is this rifle. My Zbroia Kozak on a bipod will hammer that, with £5.50 spitfires. It can't be a one off, as you have had 2. Get your money back & buy a springer. Better luck with your next rifle.

Hi Brandon. Thanks for the comment. Looking forward to maybe seeing you at the range; I also have a Mito and rate it, just not done a video on it yet, even though I had one of the first ones available. I really should do a video on it.

Why don't people learn (I already learned) at least never buy the first units of a new product. Let at least 1 year go by after the launch and the demand will slow down and be attentive to the forums for the chronic problems of the product and videos on yout. And never buy units that appear on the second-hand market right after launch.

You’re right Mike. Only thing is that having owned 4 FX rifles already I thought it’d be ok for the first iteration, plus I wanted something good to talk about for the channel. I’m disappointed on this occasion it did t go to plan. It has made me precautious though now moving forwards.

@@zubysan I've owned three FX's and the last one I bought a 2019 wildcat mk2 came with a lot of assembly issues and a crazy regulator. I had no problems with the previous two. With the vulcan3 I bought one when there were problems with the regulator because the breathing hole was on top of an oring and it wouldn't let the regulator breathe. The Rti Prophet was the same when it came out, problems with the regulator only on the third regulator was it good. So it doesn't matter the brand when they launch a new product on the market, it's best to wait a year.

@@zubysan So I have to say thank you. Thanks to your video confirming others that panthers have several problems to solve before thinking about buying one. Besides, it's almost the price of an impact, which makes it unattractive for me, knowing that the cost of production, with the Pantera being much cheaper to produce than an impact.

It is an fx so I hope you tried 4.50, everyone I tried above that gave similar to what your showing. They are very pellet fussy.

I tried 4.50 QYS 9.56g Streamlined in the store and at the same time tried the 4.49’s; it preferred the 4.49’s so I brought them for testing

NEVER EVER BUY A NEW TO MARKET FX AIRGUN, always wait at least 12 months after the rifle goes on sale , every time i bought a newly designed fx in .177 they were awful .

Thanks for sharing. Great vid, saw the link on Airgun Factory. Trigger mech aside the only time I've had groups like that from any of my various Sub12 was when there was an issue with the muzzle crown. The only thing I can think of is either it's cut wonky or they've fitted unchoked barrel. If you get another you could maybe try slugs such as Mako 10.5gr or ZAN 10gr? Still, more expense you don't need.

Thanks Marcus. Please send me the link on the AGF. I’ll let you know if I get another; I recon I’ll wait for now

the 500mm isnt suited to shoot heavy slugs and is much better at shooting pellets, if you want to shoot slugs you need a longer barrel.
@stevec2739 Жыл бұрын
You do realise all fx triggers are like that if you adjust them incorrectly, you have made it a single stage trigger as the second stage is wound out too far, that’s why the trigger blade doesn’t return.
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Hello again Steve. I made no trigger adjustments whatsoever and the 2nd unit I got had it’s trigger go faulty in the store, no adjustments whatsoever. Worse still is that the instructions for the UK specify that due to liability reasons, unless done by an authorized dealer, not to adjust the 1st/2nd stage pull (I forget the exact wording but myself and a member of the range I went to were both disappointingly surprised to read that).

@zubysan Жыл бұрын
The US ones are the high power version of the rifle, shooting heavy grain slugs using either the 600mm or 700mm barrels. This uk spec is 500mm in .177 and I was shooting different weighted pellets.

Zubyscan, liked and subscribed to your channel. To begin, it appears that you got a piece of crap for a rifle with piss poor quality control from a Monday hangover build. Also, because of your lack of reporting the cylinder fill pressure, regulator pressure, Power wheel adjustments, micro wheel adjustments, grains of each pellet and not just the name brand, and especially the velocity out of the muzzle and for the least, your elevation above mean sea level, barometric pressure, temperature, direction and wind velocity that my conclusion leads me to believe that your problem is the loose nut behind the steering wheel. Try shooting the pellets or slugs at 3,000 feet per second at 100 yards and you'll be lucky to hit the target backboard. Do not expect the impossible. Jiles shot with many years of experience as well as other reviewers that do not report the myriad of variables. What is heard a lot are the adjectives such as this gun shoots fast, this gun hits hard, this gun looks badass and that is why you should buy it. What thge hell do all those adjectives even mean? They are really calling you stupid to your face in those reviews because one variable will throw the pellet out of the grou7p and they call it a flyer instead of taking responsibility and stating that they did not size, weigh and inspect each pellet as well as load them without damage into the magazine. Can you calculate the efficiency of the rifle? On average from the hundreds of videos I analyze, the average best are approximately 3.45 fpe/grAir. One gr of TNT gives 200 fpe, one gr Air at STP has 6 fpe, the best efficiency will give you 5.1 fpe/grAir. Something to think about and used to compare for efficiency, power and accuracy. Accuracy always comes first then depending if hunting its power, for plinking or paper target its efficiency, but for silohuetts its a combination, but always accuracy first. The worlds worst hit is still better than the worlds best miss. All your group shots are "flyers". Please keep making videos and report all variables. Numbers do not lie, but you can lie with numbers and the laws of physics are not just really good ideas. FJB Out!
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Hi FJB. Thank you for your detailed comment. Your attention to detail is admirable but please bear in mind that I make the videos in my spare time and as a result of having purchased the rifles as an enthusiast, so I don’t have the time to do detailed analytics and considerations when testing accuracy, considering all the variables and parameters you focused upon. I agree that accuracy is key and I can say that both Panthera’s were set to max setting when I tested them, but unfortunately both Panthera’s that came to me had faulty triggers, which did have an impact on the accuracy. Additionally with the myriad of other rifles I’ve got and have shot, they both did not demonstrate the accuracy you’d expect from an FX. I have others that are spot on in terms of accuracy; I so wanted the Panthera to beat them all, but it wasn’t to be. As I’ve had two now and both with problems, I’ll be waiting down the line for the MK2 in sub 12 UK to see how that does, hopefully with better results.

This is the difference between someone who spends his own money and then reviews a gun compared to someone who gets given guns to try. Unfortunately unless you are a bored millionaire this is going to limit your choices to try. The accuracy could well be down to tuning but the cocking arm and trigger issues are unforgivable on a new gun and cannot be blamed on being sub-12.
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. You’re right, it’s not right about the cocking arm and trigger and these should have been tested more thoroughly before leaving the factory. Btw, I’m not a bored millionaire; I wish. Funding these rifles is hard enough and now I’m down over £200 in fuel for all the trips to Solware, and over £60 in pellets testing a rifle I’ve ended up taking back. Gutted tbh.

Yes it is. He chronographed it and shared in one of the other comments and it's at about what you'd expect, plus it has a LW barrel, same Air Arms etc. My S510 with a LW barrel single hole groups up to 30 yards. Also Sweden has a similar gun law to the UK except their licence exempt power level is 10 joules 4 meters from the muzzle rather than 12ft/lb (16.2j)at the muzzle. To me it looks like they messed up cutting the crowns.
@zubysan Жыл бұрын
It has and hasn’t. It has in that there is the sun 12 version and I’ve seen a video of a sub 12 .177 shooting at 110 yards. However the benefits of the large plenum over the barrel aren’t there, as the uk spec has a very small plenum at the start of the barrel. Plus the barrel is the standard superior STX and not the Heavy. Despite all all, I was hoping for great things after seeing other people’s sub 12 videos and unfortunately I was unlucky…twice…make of that what you will. Third strike and you’re out FX?…I’ll wait and see…

whats up with your pronunciation of lever? 110 yards also known as 100 meters... strange Americanisation from a British person.
