This show had two of the all time great satellite characters in the shape of Mrs Warboys and Mr Swainey. Both sublime at pushing Victors buttons whilst being blissfully unaware of it.

Given that the best comedy should bare some relation to the real world, how could these two dreadful characters be THAT unaware of the impact their mindless actions might have on others?
@marwood1969Ай бұрын
@@antispindr8613 that's what makes it funny. If they knew, they'd just be obnoxious. That's the whole point.

.....yes so true.....and Richard Wilson himself says that he was not at all like Victor in real life....tho that's hard to believe it as he is such a convincing actor! loved this series to bits & was sad when it all ended.

Patrick and Pippa should have had their own series after one foot ended. Patrick was a perfect character to carry on IMO. Not too late either.
@kaysmith89922 жыл бұрын
That would be quite funny since they were basically the younger version of Victor and Margaret, they'd be the right age to succeed them now.

We're kind of used to this now, but normally I'd bauk at the idea of incidental music during actual scenes (rather that transitions) in British sitcoms, but it always seems to work in OFITG. The music used throughout , but especially from the moment Margaret and Jean open the door and find the chaos within, and everything that follows, just heightens the hilarity somehow. Very few British sitcoms of the time would have got away with this without feeling cheap and incredibly annoying. It fascinates me.

I always wondered why Pippa stayed with Patrick as he's an enormous tosser. Victor is lovely, he's just unlucky in life.

I always thought Patrick was a young version of Victor. They're nice to their wives but get grouchy when surrounded by idiots, and unluckily Patrick has only caught Victor at the worst moments when things go wrong.
@kaysmith89922 жыл бұрын
Patrick is very loving to Pippa though. In a way it's a bit like Victor and Margaret, Margaret is the one person Victor is never short with.

They are replayed on yesterday and gold channels but at 9-11pm after the watershed once a month or when they can be bothered , that's why we never see them...compared to what's on television before 9pm, I think this is TV GOLD !!! 😀😂😂

Yes. Congratulations, you've quoted Mr Williams, who poetically describes how we all experience time within our own consciousness, and how ephemeral it is. Not sure what we have to learn from this in relation to this video.

Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
