So, I'm Jewish, but my Daddy's best friend was Christian and when he was dying of kidney disease I went to live with he and his wife. We would sit around after dinner and listen to Jerry Clower. I damn well garuntee you I'm the only Jew with a mother from Brooklyn a Daddy from the deep south that know's who Jerry Clower is and I'm proud of it. What a great Southern gentleman, Christian and personality he was. Thank you Jerry, you brought me a lot of joy in the time of great sadness.

@@playinsincepong1 hey, quite off topic.....but I've read a couple books by Jewish authors, and weirdly, in both books there were points where the topic was "the south". And there was this obvious, almost debilitating fear of "the south" that these authors had. I don't get it? I've heard of this from others that are Jewish also. Why is this? People down here have absolutely nothing but the highest respect and sympathy for the Jewish people. I mean, our own faith is derivative of the Jewish faith. I even know a couple Jewish families that now live in Birmingham, Alabama suburbs (Springville and Mountain Brook, AL I think). And even they cant explain it.Even they were scared to death to have had to relocate there, but soon, according to them, realized that they'd rather be nowhere else. And love it there. I don't think it's hate, or anything like that. Maybe an anxiety?? It's just something I've wondered about because it seems to be across the board from what I've read, seen, and heard. Just a question 🙂

I listened to his records with my grandfather growing up. I had the opportunity to eat a catfish dinner with him. One always wonders when meeting an entertainer, especially one as unique as Mr Clower, what they are really like off stage. For any folks out there wondering, he was exactly the same as what you see and hear on stage. He was a perfect gentleman and it was a pleasure to meet him.

In the early 1980's, my father happened to share a passenger jet flight with the great Jerry Clower. My father stated that Jerry Clower stood in the forward aisle of the plane for nearly the entire flight, and entertained all the passengers and crew with his funny stories for hours. That story spoke volumes to me about the tremendous humor, character, and kindness of Jerry Clower.

I grew up in Louisiana but I used to spend the summer at my grand parents farm in Kansas. One year, Jerry was scheduled to come to the county fair as the last day headliner. I convinced my grandfather to go against his best wishes. By about the second story of his routine the whole bleachers were crying laughing including my grandfather who was in tears. For a bunch of Kansas dirt farmers to lose it like that was really something to see. I never saw him laugh that way ever. Still sticks out as one of my favorite child hood memories.

I owe a lot of my success in construction sales to this fine gentleman. As a child I listened to his comedy and while I enjoyed it I learned from it. The man was a first class southern story teller. I learned the art of delivery of a story by listening to him. He was a salesman before we he was a comic and He was a master of painting the mental picture to connect with people. He was always humble and a true class act. I hope to meet him one day in that great reunion in the sky.

He often told people that he was a "Deep Water Baptist". I agree with what he said. First-Repent for your sins, ask God to forgive you, and to save you, and he will! Then, go down into the water, and get fully immersed in Jesus' name for the remission of your sins. Repentance and Baptism in Jesus' name is the physical part of doing what he told us to do. When we repented, that was the spiritual part. Salvation begins on the inside, & works it's way out. In other words, God's salvation is shown on the outside, when it's present on the inside! Praise God for his saving grace!!!
