In the last segment we started the teardown on this 1993 FXR - in this part we pick up where we left off and make some needed upgrades to the drivetrain. We'll replace all the seals on the primary side of the transmission, install the sprocket for our chain setup, and finally install a set of spherical bearings in the swing arm.

Great video! I use heat shrink (lightly hit with heat) over splined shafts when installing seals, and save for future uses.

The way I fixed Cleve Blocks is throw them a way and I installed Spherical Bearings from Paughco! No more weird lateral stuff. The original 3 part pivot shaft snapped ,then the Cleve Bloks failed ,then the isolators came apart.

Watching you looking at your part without safety glasses while using the press reminded me of the time I saw a guy at work get his hair caught in the spindle of a drill press.

One thing i love about riding a HD is that there are so many great aftermarket tools and parts makers. My track bike is a Triumph 675R. There's very few, and they are VERY expensive!

Gently and carefully drill a short screw into the seal. Carefully not to punch through it. Be ehh short screw just a few threads in. Then use pliers to pull back on the screw. It will pull the seal. Again. Do this carefully. Or you will be spending money. But it works flawlessly if you do it right. You can use two. One on each side of the whole so you can pull both sides at once if you want. Again. Careful.

Spherical bearings are for use on installations that move on more than one plane , so why use them here on a single motion plane when you could put in a roller or ball bearing set up which is probably way cheaper and possibly stronger and more maintenance free ??? Spherical bearings are being used to compensate for probable misalignment in the bushing bores in the swing arm , this gets around having to line bore the swing arm for a better bearing set-up . Ultimately the spericals are a compromise as they will wear out much sooner than a roller setup would , Its a good step up but its not the ultimate upgrade. Its kind of ironic that the predecessor to the FXR frame , the Big-Twin had tapered roller bearings in the swing arm !

Very well done, if not overdone video, but someone will be looking for all the info you are providing. I was wondering however who was providing the entertainment, or as I would call it, noise? Don't know why it bugged me so much, but there are other uses for a torque wrench...

Question: Compared to my 2005 Wide Glide, do the outer ends of the swingarm "float like my W.G.? I mean, compared to say, a Metric Bike, where the outer ends of the swingarm actually pivot in mounts that are solidly welded to the frame. This design actually holds the outer ends of the swingarm solidly fixed to the frame. Only allowing swingarm to arc up and down, within it's range of travel. Why didn't the Motor Company do likewise. I feel, that by allowing the outer swingarm ends to float/ie: only connected to the motor/trans sub assembly, and NOT to the frame, allows the rear wheel to track independently of the front tire. By having the motor/trans./swingarm/rear tire, as one complete unit, connect to the frame via front and rear rubber isolated steel mounts, along with one mount above the cylinders, allows front and rear wheel tracking differences that help contribute to "dyna wobble," correct?

Do u really feel the bearing is better than clev block ...my only thought is loss of engine damping and road grime breaking them down ...I'm on the fence

why not go to a later model narrow belt instead of the messy old chain option,I've put a narrow belt on my 1982 sturgis in order to fit a wider rear tyre, belt is the same width as a chain. not a problem adapting anything, and no messy, noisy chain. clean rear end and far less maintenance.
