When I was in highschool and still living with my muslim parents, I used to play this and told them this was an islamic hymn so that I could listen to it without an issue. Thanks for translating it. Wishful thinking and unrealistic, I'm sorry. Democracy cannot work in a place like Syria, and does more harm than good. I don't want to repeat the tired "le evil colonial borders" thing, but it really is true. A country like Syria shouldn't exist, it has far too many different groups with views that cannot be reconciled. There's a reason it's in a permanent state of civil war. Best you can hope for is that Christians (and other religious minorities) are granted their own states, or at least great autonomy within Syria. But knowing who's in charge, this is never going to happen. They are chanting "Alawites to the sea, Christians to Beirut" after all, not to mention their planned revenge on the "Crusaders" (Syrian Christians).

@@weetbix4497 The civil was never about religion. It was taking down Assad. Nobody wants to revenge from the "Crusaders" and I have never heard anyone referring to Christians as crusaders. Nobody wants to bring back a war that ended centuries ago. The chanting "Alawites to the sea, Christians to Beirut" was never used in years and was only repeated by few extremists. But the overall goal and theme of the revolution is to get rid of Assad. Best evidence on that is churches celebrating the fall of Assad and HTS taking control over the country.

Idk about other nations, but here in Jordan, the Christians here are as native to this land as one can be, their heritage is of great importance to the den of Arabism and ought to be respected as such.

Christianity is an important and integral part of the middle east, but there is nothing like Christians are native to Jordan or Syria. Neither is Islam. Both are important and were part of this history to the middle east. Syria has been inhabitant for more than tens of thousands of years, while Christianity is only 2000 years old and Islam is only 1400 years old. By that sense we are all native to this land regardless of our religion.

The old government is gone, Assad flew away as soon as it was clear that his government had died without firing a single shot and left behind everyone who believed in him. And "Holy Russia protector of Christendom" has flown this flag ever since al-Sharaa reached Damascus. This flag has been used since 1920, and in fact it was used before Baath took over. The old Syrian flag was just the flag of the United Arab Republic. Christians are using the new (old) flag in Syria itself, it is not the flag of HTS.

The Ba'ath Party’s flag represents the pan-Arab nationalist movement that emerged in response to colonial domination. Its use predates the Syrian Civil War and is tied to a vision of unity and independence for the Arab world-a direct rejection of the divisions imposed by Western powers like the French during the Mandate. In contrast, the HTS-supported flag has no deep historical ties to Syria. It was chosen by colonial forces to serve their agenda, not to represent the Syrian people. It lacks the ideological or national significance of the Ba'athist flag, which has stood as a symbol of resistance and sovereignty for decades. Criticizing the Ba'athist legacy while supporting a flag imposed by foreign colonizers is contradictory. The Ba'ath movement, for all its flaws, at least sought to establish Syria as an independent and sovereign state. The HTS-backed flag, on the other hand, represents a return to division and subservience to foreign powers. And don't even get me started on Christian persecutions nowadays, and since you mentioned the Mandate era, it's also contradictory, considering how divisive Christianity got there at the time, far off different during Ba'athist control.
