Maybe the Trebum and the Trewala were in an alliance because of their Trebum song, maybe the Trebum would use the Trewala as transport and safety until the song attracted the Cylander and Mathmatician and they ruined the peace. I recon the game is to try to restore peace by destroying the Cylander and to destroy the Mathmatician.

Theory time: The Eternal Cylinder is something known as a "Great Filter" It went after the humans before the Trebhum, as seen by the servants of the cylinder being amalgamations if human civilization, along with the memories of the Cylinder containing human silhouettes and the like. The Cylinder's main objective is to absorb everything, and make it into one thing, as it believes that variety is suffering. The Narrator is one of the humans that was absorbed by the Cylinder, but had decided to help the Trebhum at least halt the Cylinder... For now. Basically, the Human Race is gone in this timeline.

The Cylinder is a depiction and literal unmovable object with all crushing force. It just came from the stars, on song of trebum. You don't have to understand why is cylinder, but most importantly What is Cylinder. Impossibility of its existence creates a weakness. Mathematician and other servants of the cylinder are exactly it's weakness. They are unique creatures, while it despise difference. That's also why only Mathematician, as truelly unique thing that cylinder have created, can destroy it. Atleast that's what I think.
