Mike Bloomfield's slashing slide solo on "Shake Your Money Maker" on the 1965 PBBB Elecktra record first time I heard in in '67 was a flash point for me too and now I am a blues guitarist myself because of it. I can play Keith Richard's solo in "Last Time", it's easy and you can study his fingering very well on that same Ed Sullivan Show video you mentioned.

I remember the video he made a few years back playing Bloomfield’s hacked up Tele. GE really has a lot of admiration and respect for Michaels playing. They are both in the same boat as players. Both monsters of the instrument yet relatively unknown outside of the guitar community. Mr. Smith you are the genuine article! It’s awesome to have KZbin these days and be able to see these videos of you playing. As a teenager I loved seeing you on SNL playing tasty licks and showcasing all of those gorgeous vintage guitars. At that time it was my only access to drooling over a black guard Tele or a 58 V etc. Thank you so much!

@@kellyomalley1873 In his own words : I don't know why they fired me, well, you're in a job and then you're not in that job any more. Such things happen. SNL was sold to another company, the atmosphere changed, there came some corporate guys with clipboards, and many people were fired that year. I was upset at first, it cost me a lot of money, but later on I realized I got freedom to move forward. Check the 2 hrs. interview on KZbin. It's a treat.
