Airborne was the first GI Joe figure I owned. My dad brought it back for me as a gift from a work trip. I brought it to school to show my friends, but on the way back home, a bully pushed me down a hill while I was holding it in my hand. I lost Airborne at the bottom of the hill in the snow. 😢

Airborne was my first GI Joe. I remember finding him on clearance at a Gold Circle department store. I still have my airborne and he’s one of my very favorite joes period. I do agree I wish they would have done more with him in the comics. Hell, even the current comics would be nice. But, then again I have my own Lore for him. I’ve made a few customs of airborne as well. I made my own update as far as a classic airborne and I have a modern airborne. Also, I even went as far as making a futuristic airborne. Thanks more giving this character some love and it’s nice to see someone who’s likeminded. 🍻👍

I really appreciate your comment! It's very cool that you've made a few custom Airborne figures and especially awesome that you still have your childhood Airborne. Who knows, maybe someday, Airborne will become a bigger presence in the G.I. Joe lore!

@@WeHadThat its crazy how I can still remember sitting in my Mom's car when I opened the package. Cool video, as always! I too loved Airborne; that second wave had such great outfits and characterization, both in the toy sculpts and the cartoons. Interestingly enough it was because of that episode of the cartoon with his psychic brother that Airborne became someone more used in my play; I know the sci-fi elements weren't generally appreciated by fans at the time but I loved those things when they got thrown in the mix. I was never concerned with uniforms being military accurate because I was too young to recognize those details and I generally thought of the team as a very specialized off-shoot anyways. The info I found most interesting in your video was that Airborne was a Navajo in the US version, as up here in Canada he had a very different file card. I distinctly remember he was from Quebec and it mentioned the Mohawks, which are a First Nation people (you call them Native Americans in the US). There wasn't a detailed biography so it wasn't until the cartoon that I learned of his status but it definitely stood out to me that he was Canadian because it was so rare in pop-culture for us to be included (we pretty much only had Alpha Flight, Wolverine & Captain Canuck at the time). I can't think for the life of me who the other Canadian Joe was but it played into my stories as a kid. Love that you are focusing these vids on individual figures/characters, keep up the great work!

Steve, thank you so much for your comment! I didn't mind the sci-fi and supernatural themes as much as the terribly inaccurate version of Airborne's outfit and the fact that he didn't seem at all like a Navajo in some episodes -Haha! I didn't realize that Airborne had a different file card in Canada! That's wild! I wish I'd known that before I did this video! Also, isn't Back-Stop Canadian?

Airborne was always one of my favorite characters, especially since he departed a bit from the OD Green many of the OG 13 came clad. I loved that OD Green because I always had a stri g fascination with the Military, it was just nice to get a unique looking guy for my lineup. I loved the fact he was a Native Tribesman because my Dad had taught me the US Military employed Native Tribal people for their communications as early as WWI. Plus, we have Tribal blood in my family so Airborne was a symbol of all that.
