+sage +Samson Rosen so you are both right. They used stunts and CGI. The CGI is just so good it looks like actual stunt men. This is what the call digital doubles. Something I have been studying to do. Even today these Digital Doubles are ahead of their time. There's really great software to get the physics/logistics correct.

It actually really bothers me that none of the ninjas try to use their Abseiling guns as weapons (it can penetrate rock a hundred meters away) or try to ascend the cliff and cut the JOEs' ropes. That said, Snake Eyes is appropriately bad-ass so I don't care as much as I would otherwise.
