গাজন উৎসবের ইতিহাস : চড়ক, নীলষষ্ঠী | History of Charak Puja : Gajan Festival

চৈত্রমাসের শেষ থেকে পয়লা বৈশাখ বাঙালির উৎসবমুখর সময়। যে উৎসবের নাম গাজন। পয়লা বৈশাখের আগে এই গাজনের মাধ্যমেই বাঙালির বাংলা নববর্ষ উদযাপনের সূচনা। যে গাজনের প্রস্তুতি শুরু হয় চৈত্রের শুরু থেকে ভক্তদের গাজনের সন্ন্যাস গ্রহণে। তারপর চৈত্রসংক্রান্তির আগের দিন পালিত হয় নীলষষ্ঠী। নীলষষ্ঠীকে মনে করা হয় শিব ঠাকুরের বিয়ে। তাই আগের দিন অধিবাস করা হয়, হয় হাজরা পুজো। তারপর নীলষষ্ঠী পালিত হয়। গাওয়া হয় নীলের গান। এরপর দিন চড়ক পুজো। পুকুর বা দীঘি থেকে চড়ক গাছ তুলে এনে, চড়কের পাটায় পুজো করা হয়। চড়কে বাণফোঁড়া, বঁটিঝাঁপ ইত্যাদি কৃচ্ছ্রসাধনে ভক্তরা ভগবানকে তুষ্ট করার চেষ্টা করেন। আজও পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মালদা, মুর্শিদাবাদ, বীরভূম, কলকাতা, নদীয়া, কোচবিহার ইত্যাদি অঞ্চল, ত্রিপুরা, অসম ও বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় চড়ক উপলক্ষে মেলা হয়। চড়ক ও গাজন উৎসব বাংলার প্রাচীন লোক উৎসব। কিন্তু কী এই চড়ক ও গাজনের ইতিহাস? বাঙালির জীবনে, বাংলায় কতদিন ধরে পালিত হয় চড়ক? চড়ক শিবের পুজো নাকি ধর্ম ঠাকুরের? কে দেবী নীলষষ্ঠী? -এসব নিয়েই আজকের পর্ব ইতিহাসের চড়ক, গাজন।
The last days of the month of Chaitra to the first day of Baishakh is a festive time for Bengalis. This festival is called Gajan. Gajan marks the beginning of the celebration of the Bengali New Year, starting from the first day of Baishakh. The preparations for Gajan start from the beginning of Chaitra with devotees taking vows of asceticism for the festival. Then, on the day before the Chaitra Sankranti, Neel Shashti is celebrated, which is considered to be the wedding of Lord Shiva. So, on the previous day, a ritual called Adhibas is performed along with Hazra Puja. Following that, Neel Shashti is celebrated with the singing of songs dedicated to Lord Neel. The next day is Charak Puja, where a tree is fetched from a pond or lake and worshipped on the Charak platform. During Charak, devotees perform extreme austerities like piercing with arrows and knife jumping to please God. Today, fairs are held on the occasion of Charak in places like Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Kolkata, Nadia, Cooch Behar in West Bengal, as well as in Tripura, Assam, and various parts of Bangladesh. Charak and Gajan festivals are ancient folk festivals of Bengal. But what is the history of Charak and Gajan? How long have they been celebrated in Bengali life, in Bengal?
