The military goes higher altitudes in stages. First they stay in around 6000 - 7000 feet for two days. Then stay at 10000 - 11000 feet for two days. Only thereafter travel at higher altitudes. That too when military guys are very fit. But these city guys drive straight from Delhi to 15000 feet within one or two days. No wonder they get high altitude sickness, which can even kill a person. They should carry oxygen cylinder with them, which is of some help. But in really dangerous high altitude sickness the only way out is to either urgently come down to lower height, or to get inside a pressurized chamber. Army keeps pressurized chambers in their high altitude stations, which saves lives. Now army also has portable pressurized chambers. Pressurized chamber of Indian army can be seen on KZbin. But these city guys are really taking great risks. There should be some regulations to control their swift travel to above 10000 feet without prior proper acclimatization. Otherwise some tourists may die unfortunately

I was on this route on 30 may and when we crossed high passes my condition was also like ravi bhai co passengers were saying that this is psychological but the level of headache ravi bhai is feeling only those who have experienced high altitude sickness can really know and the bad thing is we didn’t find any pharmacy in between, if anyone is planning to go to Ladakh please take medication and oxygen cylinder and keep your self hydrated and avoid staying on high passes.

I am pretty active guy i do gymming and cardio regularly and eat clean but I still got headaches and some people with me were smoking cigarettes in every 30 mins and they are not very fit still they didn’t got any sickness

I’ve travelled all these passes on himalayan bike. I was 27 when I did it and never faced any breathing issue. Only at khardungla my heartbeat reached 160+ and I was uncomfortable. My point is that if you’re feeling ill at high altitudes then you need to improve your cardiovascular health. You’re not fit !

You should have followed a gradual acclimatization schedule spread over 3 months before embarking on this trip. Climbing 6-7 flights of stairs 3 times a day would have improved your cardiovascular endurance. P.S. Your breathlessness has nothing to do with covid, as suggested in some of the comments.

You are wondering fellows. Before proceeding to Leh, all of you should have spent a day or two at Mandi/Manali/Keylong to accumlatised. Or you may have driven very fast which may have resulted headaches or dizzying during the travel at high altitudes. But be very careful on return.

Small tips for the trip to leh laddakh: Always keep hydrating yourself and eat light to avoid AMS. Never leave your comrades far behind while moving in no signal routes. Always keep additional fuel .. And don't use Hot air in car on heights
