In a modern triple A shooter if a character says "This is a suicide mission" youll be like "ya so what?" If read those lines in HM however you know shit is about to get real.
@Shadowmagiceffect8 жыл бұрын
in hotline miami every mission is a suicide mission.

I mean really, pretty much every character is incredibly skillful at killing. Evan, for god's sake, not only went to a building he knew was full of armed Russians intent on killing anyone who entered, but got to the center of the building to talk to the boss! Manny Pardo often just takes time off to slaughter a couple dozen gang members completely by himself. In real life, most of the levels would be easy ways to get killed fast.
@skornie1238 жыл бұрын
Alex Baldwin This is definetely true. Sometimes for shits and giggles I play one character, when he dies once, I cant pick him again and choose another one. It really shows how fragile life is represented in this game about killing thousands of people.
@pabloc88087 жыл бұрын
Although one possible interpretation for Pardo's killing sprees is that they were just power trips while he murdered someone as the Mutilator. That'd be backed by "Caught", that shows the same movie set we see in Martin Brown's levels. Or maybe Martin Brown wasn't a hallucination at all and the "situation at the station" during the outro to Caught is Brown killing everyone.

I love the contrast between the Colonel’s take on the war and humanity (“We’re all just goddamn animals.”) and Beard’s innate belief in human goodness (“It’s on the house, kid. You would have done the same for me.”) Beard was IMO the most tragic character in the whole story.

MechWarrior894 Dude in the Hotline Miami universe, the Russians are winning and have the upper hand against the US. Why do you think there are so many russians in the area? The nuke on San Francisco (where Beard stayed after service) was a hit that the US had to take. 50 blessings (led by the General who commanded in Hawaii WHO WAS ALSO AWARE OF THE LOSING WAR) was made to make a country fight for its place again. 50 blessings indirectly created tension between american-russian relations (Manipulating people like Jacket, Biker, Richter etc). On top of this, they also led the assassination of both presidents to reach the breaking point of the conflict and hence World War 3.

I feel like this song just expresses the mission so accurately. Beard and the ghost wolves just want to go home, they're tired of being put through madness, serving for a general who would ultimately cause all of their deaths. You can feel the expression on Beard's face as he grabs a flamethrower and mows through the nuclear power plant. He just wanted to go, go home, leave the chaos. He knew this was going to follow him. He never tried to fight it, he just let the urge of death run through him. He stared at the nuclear blast not far from his store. The peaceful relief that went through beard's soul as his body was engulfed in radiation and fire. He got as he wished, he expected this, he didn't fight it, he didn't flinch, he found the way home...

"I'm afraid they'll be sending you home in body bags" This line is what really got to me, the general knew that Beards and his squad would die, but they were sent anyway, and to top it all off, the ended the level with scene where you literally had to carry your dying squad member out of the explosion and wait for evac. I loved this mission and the soundtrack to match, it provided a sense of sacrifice, the acceptance of fate's cruel hand that has been dealt to them. It makes you feel so hollow inside, and the mission's visual overlay coupled with the haunting sound that the song provides gives you this sense that this is all a memoir of an event long passed. I love the way it invokes emotion and i praise it for that.

Triumphant - It's as if you've accomplished and incredibly difficult "quest", so to speak. Epic - It's as if said quest was legendary in proportion. Optimistic - It's as if you know everything will be alright now that this legendary quest has been completed. Relief - It's as if you feel an almost overwhelming, yet welcomed reassurance now that you can finally enjoy that long awaited breath. Pining - It's as if you feel a longing to be reunited with the friend, partner, companion, lover, and/or child lost during said quest. The fact that this track conveys this many distinct feelings to me is a testament to how good this song actually is, IMO. Even the title is appropriate and sums these feelings up quite well. "The Way Home", as if you're on the long road back to your home after the epic undertaking and you're in the process of reflecting on all that has transpired. It's brilliant.

One day I was driving in a sunset, recently having finished HM2. Suddenly this song is stuck in my head replaying for hours and I couldn't figure out it was both from Hotline Miami and the last Beard level. The direction behind the game clearly knew how to match the feelings they wanted to give the players and have waited a lot to finally be able to match it with one of their favourite music. Long story short, I listened for it for months while driving because there's something about this song that just says "you're finally done and after this you're safe and can relax"

You described it perfectly, even though they knew they were gonna lose the war, Beard just full on embraced his fate and still did whatever was needed, which exactly what makes his character badass in my opinion. He knew that it would not end after the war, but he still did it not because for some personal goals but actually because he was forced to, which makes his character all the way more tragic.

This level showed the significance of the picture that Jacket dropped off of Lebedev's loft. It also shows why Jacket constantly dreams of Beard saying "It's on the house" to him when he was in his coma dream. The fact that Beard died during the same time that Jacket started killing for 50 Blessings is really depressing. The entire catalyst for HM2's ending is the San Francisco nuke. It's the thing that sparks all the events that follow it.

This song perfectly hits the reason for this level. You are a army soldier, Your are tired of killing and you wanna go home. Your commander says you have one more mission but that it's a death wish. You go to your mission with hope that you"ll make it out alive and 15 minutes later you reunite with your squad. Your going home you think but just then the powerplant has a nuclear meltdown.

the end of this level is so sad, daniels and the barnes always fought and messed with each other, but when he dies daniels seems to have so much regret, as if he wish he had treated him better.

this is the perfect level. The build-up is amazing. You know this will be hard, but you also know how much Beard and the others want to be done with the entire war, so you're motivated. Then the level starts and it's harder than diamonds. But the music, man. It just captures everything. How insane this whole thing is. How determined you, the player, and Beard are to be done with it and get back home. The sacrifices on the way. Willingness to potentially sacrifice himself to save someone else. Knowing that you need to go through hell to reach a little piece of heaven.

This is the track that just sticks with me. Knowing you are walking into an absolute death trap but holding out on that hope that after this maybe you can finally go home and stop fighting.

I get what your going with but honestly I feel as though the trippyness of "You are the blood" fits more for an ending like Hotline Miami Wrong Number.

Poor Barnes. When the elevator exploded, Barnes could be seen still moving his mouth meaning he most likely died slowly.

@darthvaderreviews69269 жыл бұрын
Izzy Lichi Flamethrower. *puts on sunglasses* But seriously, I've seen worse on Hard so far, Dead Ahead being the main culprit. As long as you can get around the windows, the flamethrower does the level nicely. Still, if you brought the sniper first time around like I did, that powerplant will most likely make you start projectile vomiting in fear.
@EldritchBee9 жыл бұрын
DarthVaderReviews Oh no I had such trouble with takeover on hard. For the first floor you need either bloodline or Dirty hands to get through the door, and then you need to use guns on the next floors. I hated takeover.

The multiple deaths went to great effect here. It made me feel exactly what beard was feeling, which was that he was most likely going to die, the chances were completely stacked against his squad. My jaw hit the floor when I first beat the level and the explosion hit. I used the sniper and it actually made the level very fair in my opinion, and I absolutely loved it.
