He is now 76 years old and doesn't take challenges anymore, but up to 5 years ago he would take on all comers. He teaches in the park in the Temple of Heaven (Tiantan,) Beijing and many people would come to try out against him in the past. Master Xu is one of the rare Wushu teachers who allow students to try out techniques on him, and vice versa. Most teachers demonstrate on a few favourite students only, but Master Xu doesn't hesitate to demonstrate on bigger and stronger students.

武术的博大精深在于修身养性，保持心神安定。这样教初学者实战，是拔苗助长，欲速而不达。离修炼上层功夫背道而驰了。不是反应慢，是心理上紧张，导致动作僵硬。日本的武术在精神修为上，很注重。这也是他的魅力所在。中国武术要继承的不是动作框架，而是气质和内涵。只能用于打架的，是下乘功夫。个人意见，仅供参考。不备之处，请别当真。老师傅是好功夫，教学上再柔和一点，注重柔化，教出的弟子才能真正体会松沉。功到自然成。

Seek more great masters. There are many ways of training up individuals. Fear is moral character of individuals. All skills and trainings need great masters. Very few have the fate or luck to meet with great masters and be able to live harmoniously and practice beneficial arts. It is skill and moral cultivation to be able to stop at the right moments. People also need skills to treat injuries. A lot of love and learning needed. There are few good and able masters. Lots of bits and pieces around.
