This is a 3 hours production of ERT TV Channel on 1984 dedicated to George Dalaras. I consider it necessary to be uploaded here for two main reasons: First because actually this is a historic travel of Dalaras into the Greek music of the period between 1925-1983. Throughout his narration he demonstrates the development of the Greek popular music and the direct link it has to the composers ,the lyricists, and the singers,along with the social and political events that took place on each period , the influence it had on the music and Dalaras himself and on his musical choices, and of course his carrier into the popular music. Second reason is, some of my friends have already uploaded some songs from this production, but in my opinion without the narration of the singer these songs are not that interesting because they loose their real meaning out of context . Due to this historic significance I kindly request all of you to view it by the proper respect.Through these videos it is obvious that a good singer is not simply somebody with a good voice, but somebody who has the knowledge, the personality and the courage to respect his tradition, to educate his generation and the ones who would follow to sing quality songs based on the daily feelings and necessities of the Greek people in a way that will illustrate best the real meaning of the Greek soul. Such great notions were personified into the Greek popular music in my opinion only by three singers : Stelios Kazantzidis and Grigoris Bithikotsis who opened this important "journey" and Dalaras as the younger successor who undertook the duty to transfer this tradition to the newest generations.
