Refreshing to see a non pretentious, honest artist speaking so candidly and admitting his mistakes.

His 'mistakes' were not worse than the mistakes young American soldiers made in Vietnam. What mistakes can you make at the age of seventeen when conscripted ??

Nice to hear him giving honest answers from his own personal point of view. Grass has always been an honest man, not a follower of ideological tendencies or some virtual political correctness. Maybe that is why he got the Nobel Prize.

From Charlie Rose's Wikipedia bio: In 2015, Gawker released a redacted address list of convicted sex predator Jeffrey Epstein (the "little black book"), which contained Rose's name alongside other high-profile individuals. Rose and Epstein had an amiable relationship in the early 2000s, and Epstein made a number (at least 5) of recommendations for open positions at the Charlie Rose show, all of whom were young women. Rose hired three of these women, one of whom told New York: "I was being offered up for abuse". Sexual harassment accusations On November 20, 2017, eight women who were employees of, or aspired to work for, Rose accused him of contriving to be naked in their presence, groping them, and making lewd phone calls. The accusations, which were made in a report in The Washington Post, dealt with conduct from the late 1990s to 2011. On the day the article on the women's statements was published, PBS and Bloomberg LP suspended distribution of Rose's show, and CBS announced that it was suspending Rose pending an investigation.[41][42] CBS, PBS, and Bloomberg terminated their contracts with Rose the following day.[43][44][45] Rose issued a statement reading: I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.[41] Rose's firing as a co-anchor on CBS This Morning was covered by CBS, the day after the report was published. Rose's former co-hosts Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell condemned the alleged sexual harassment, saying "there is no excuse for this alleged behavior" and that Rose "does not get a pass here" for his behavior.[46] In May 2018, 27 more women came forward and accused Rose of sexual harassment, including groping and fondling. This brings the total number of women who have accused Rose of abusive behavior and sexual harassment to 35.

I knew this man years ago. In those days he was not able to talk like this. Now I see this video for the first time. I understand his attitude in this interview. It's ok. But I still disagree with his attitude in those days when he kept the main part covered-up.

Grass did not 'join' the SS but had to go there as a conscripted soldier when he was seventeen. He was born in 1927, by the way. How could he be a Natsi ??

linda boyce He became a conscripted soldier at the age of 17 for the last days of the war and got some uniform. By the way: Wernher von Braun was also in the SS. He just left his uniform somewhere by the Baltic Sea before he took his scientific papers to the United States to make a good career.

@henryseidel5469 Verner von Braun was a Nazi Criminal who oversaw Jews who work themselves to death in order to construct his V2 rocket program. The Americans took him in knowing full well that he was a Nazi and that he saw people being killed and had participated in it. When someone would die he would just request more people. If someone beat your mother with a stick, but then claim it happened 10 years ago and we should forget about that because it's so long in the past would you accept that explanation?
