Man listen! Caste system existed in ancient india coz it was thought a need of balanced society. But something like higher caste or lower caste didn't existed. The Britishers after taking survey of india alloted the group of people their caste according to their work. They where the one who decided who where lower caste and who where higher. Britishers benefited higher caste ppl and made poor lowers castes. Today the so called lower caste where never poor before... There was a caste in South India who did the work of Temple Architecture. That caste was highly respectable among people(not mean superior). But Temple Architecture was also one of the industry which Britishers completely destroyed. So these people became poor and today they come under sudra(so-called lower caste) You may have any caste, you should know the history about it. And my dear friend, Indians were never poor nor caste system made anyone poor. If you know about the 'Land Acquisition Bill' passed by Dalhousie where 10 crore (india population was 45 crore at independence) farmers in india were made landless coz they didn't had so called papers of land, Dalhousie in his own diary had said that at the time he surveyed in India he found no Indian landless!
