Trust me when I say, I know this thing by heart as I would usually need to factory reset at least once a year. All good now with a brand new module.

Mike, just observation. The hands aligned at 12 position but the 24 hr sub dial is exactly at at half way indicating it is at 12 midday not 12 midnight and somehow this is being reflected in the 'half-day' position (yes I know it shouldn't do that normally). It's all academic if you can't move the hands as part of the alignment....but somehow if you could they need aligning a full 12 hours forward (or backwards...I'm not sure)....I know this isn't the normal purpose of hand alignment, that's normally for micro adjustments for magnetic issues but that's all I can think of from watching both videos.

You make a very valid point Ian and I’m extremely grateful for your contribution. I’m going to remove and replace the battery again and then perform the ac reset just to see if this yields any change. I do feel that there will still be a a mechanical issue regarding the module/smart crown, but an ac reset, should find all hands at the noon position, regardless of any smart crown issues. I’ll give it a go and let you know.

It’s fixed now. Factory reset wouldn’t resolve the issue. The module was damaged so it was replaced. Working great now.

Agreed, unfortunately, the reality is that it definitely needs some attention. I’m really starting to feel that I need to sent it to Casio Japan.

I saw you ended up having to get the watch fixed with a new module and crown. I recently bought this exact same model and don't want to have the same problems with it. So, I was wondering whether you had any idea how the crown/module got damaged in the first place. It seems strange to me that an empty/damaged battery could somehow damage the crown and module too.

Hi. I feel that the module was damaged by poor charging/neglected charging before I bought it and it deteriorated rapidly during my ownership. The crown was changed along with the module to keep them new together which I totally agree with. For you and me now, I would try to regularly charge the MTG and the best way to do that is on a windowsill in direct light. Even an overcast day will charge the watch better than any artificial light. I do that now and it’s been great for both of my MTG’s and my MRG

@@desire68frogman98Hi, thanks for your response. I'll be sure to charge it regularly. In fact, it's soaking up the sun right now along with my GW-A1100 and my GST-B300. But I'm still puzzled on how it is even possible for a module and crown to become damaged by an empty battery. The watch is designed to deal with a low/dead battery by going into power saving mode, and I don't understand how a module and crown could be physically damaged by a lack of power.

I’ve read a few responses about this. It would seem that some MTG’s have this same issue. It’s almost like there was a batch of faulty modules that failed to fully charge, then ran completely out of charge relatively quickly, only staying in PS mode for a short time and then completely dying which in turn causes the module to factory reset. This has also been found with some of the later model MTG’s. I don’t think the crown had anything to do with the issue, but i feel that changing both smart crown and module together is a good idea, as it keeps both parts at the same age. I also have an MTG Tai Chi. I bought it brand new from Japan. After a few months of ownership, I started to notice that it would often go into PS. Then out of nowhere all hands were at the 12 position and the date was showing 1. The dreaded factory reset had occurred. I placed the watch under a detailers paint correction light for three days. Zero movement occurred. Did some research and found that the best light for these watches is not only sunlight, but even normal overcast daylight will be better than artificial light. So, I placed the watch on the windowsill and it was back out of PS mode later that day. It also received its sync over night and continued to charge. I would check the power level every few days and it took just over a week to reach full charge. Just to be safe, I left it there for a second week to optimize its full charge. It’s now been three weeks since I removed it from the windowsill and I check the charge every week just to see how it’s doing. It has remained fully charged to date. I don’t think that watch had ever seen a complete full charge. Placing it on the windowsill for a day, as I was doing, simply wasn’t enough for it. I’m way more careful with my two MTG’s now. These are fantastic watches and I’m taking care of them correctly now. Sorry for the lengthy reply.

@@desire68frogman98It's such a shame that such expensive watches would have such an issue. I wonder if it really was a bad batch or if it's an issue that can occur with any s1000 as long as you let the battery die enough. These watches should be designed to be able to deal with a dead battery, hence the Battery Saver mode function, so it does sort of sound like there was simply a faulty batch that actually came with broken modules, as I cannot imagine a way in which a dead battery would impact the physical well-being of the module (unless there was some leaking from the battery perhaps?).

To be honest, I feel that it was a bad batch for not only the S1000 model, but also some of the later models as I know others have seen the same issue. I don’t feel the battery was leaking, but I do feel that it could be due to a poor component or poor fitment of components in line with the charging circuit. They are still fantastic watches and I would continue to collect them but I would definitely recommend at least a week of windowsill charging as soon as the watch arrives just to be sure to start off in good standing.
