It's the greatest music ever written by the greatest composer. The immensity , grandeur, beauty and power result in truly the greatest music of all time. Apparently many of his contemporaries like liszt grinned when Richard played the piano but when he wrote he towered over them all

La marcha fúnebre de Sigfrido la aprecio tanto más en momentos de honda ensoñación o cuando vivo el exterminio de gentes y de poblaciones subyugadas (mapuches, yazidies, rohinyás, palestinos…). Ya he explicado otras veces hasta qué punto estoy conmovido por ciertos pasajes wagnerianos universales y aterrado por otros de carácter pangermánico, sin por ello renunciar a los primeros. En tiempos de resurgimiento de idolatrías patrióticas, me duele saber músicas destinadas a ensalzar una mitología cautiva que alimente xenofobias, convencido de que la música debería respetarse como matria universal, en la que nadie se sintiera amenazado. Ramón Andrés, en un artículo publicado en mayo del 2018, da cuenta del conflicto que enfrentara a dos genios, el uno pensador poeta y el otro mitólogo arrebatado, a propósito de la alzadura de músicas asertivas que al exaltar ahoguen. «Cuando un conflicto es irresoluble se trivializa, y eso es lo que a menudo ha hecho la crítica al referir el enfrentamiento entre Nietzsche y Wagner. Este antagonismo no tiene raíz, sino anclaje. Es el mismo rechazo, la misma impugnación que debió de sentir [Nietzsche] frente a Hegel: no se puede construir una música -una filosofía- asertiva por naturaleza, no puede aceptarse que se apele a una continua afirmación ni ceñirse a “un plan nacional”. Llevaba razón al decir que Wagner era un decreto en Alemania. Para Nietzsche el arte del sonido era, así lo pensaba, lo opuesto: una intuición alegórica de lo universal. Su triunfo moral, el de la música, es este: su pertenencia a todos, su arraigo en nada. No por otra cosa escribió en una temprana carta de 1869 que, después de haber oído la “caja armónica viviente” que era el coro griego, después, también, de oír gritar al actor, el oyente se había vuelto sonoro, vibración que se expande y disuelve.
