I used to carry detail towels and extra bottles of water in case of an emergency. And me and my buddies would be driving and if we saw i puddle we stopped and turned around and went a different direction. Now we’re talking about the late 80’s and early 90’s but still. So yeah OCD in full affect 😮.

@@STATUSDETAIL Quick question Status Detailer: If you see tar being built up but don't need a full car wash initself, should you just wait for the next car wash to remove some of the tar? Or can you use tar remover straight onto the car and remove it w/ a microfiber towel?
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
@@simplyeric12 if the tar is fresh and not really bad then I'd shttar remover on it and let it dwell then pressure wash off. It should be a touchless process. If it's thick big pieces then it's more difficult and you may need to wctutget in and start touching things. In general try and remove sooner than later and don't skip steps. So do the wash if you can. Or wash the bad spots then full wash when you have time I hope that made sense

As a Psychotherapist and a small business owner, the thing that struck me, and prompted me to comment, was the way you promoted yourself at the end. It's very rare to hear someone boast in a way that sounds almost free of ego. Yours was a promotion, containing evidence, provided because it it contains the plain truth: I am one of, if not the, best.

Fantastic video, narration, and pure paint correction explanation... BRAVO! I am a paint correction specialist with over 15 years experience. My formative training and OCDism comes from a Swiss watch factory where I applied paint and padstamped date/day, minute tacks, etc... and conducted my own QA/QC to top Swiss brands. I translated that Swiss horology expertise back into my automotive passion for beautifying cars. Every statements brought into this video are absolutely accurate and share the deep thinking process and complexities of this trade. 👍🏻💫

It reminds me of a red 1985 Alfa Roméo GTV6 I restored some years ago. When the owner came over, as a birthday gift from his wife, he was speechless as to how glossy the single stage paint came out and I found out that the spare tire was an 80s homologued F1 racing tire so I beautified it in its resting place. Great stories... BRAVO!! 👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This looks amazing. Wear clothing that doesn't attract dust may be a good idea. Using painter's pants and tunics will prevent dust from getting closer to the application process. Resultantly prevents any dust from getting in between the PPF and the car during the application phase.

I work for the best and fastest manufacturer of EV’s. I used to detail cars at dealerships so I understand how those come out. They just want them out and what the customer does not see goes. I am glad where I work we care about paint quality. Which I do not agree at all which other car companies and dealerships that they don’t care about what the customer may see or not. Count yourself lucky with the condition of that paint. Picked up my brand new GT4 in the same colour in Dec. Paint defects (blistering) on bumper, rear wing, door sill - all plastic parts. A tiny bit of paint even flew off while machine polishing!! Straight back to dealer who repainted affected areas. I’ve now re-polished the whole car and protected with CSL and two coats of EXO. Hopefully get first proper drive this weekend after 2 months of ownership! I think a contactless wash after polishing is essential. Amazed to see some detailers simply IPA and then coat!

I once spent three full days detailing my car, and on the maiden voyage through the mountains of southern Utah, we had a freak snowstorm lol. I never detailed it again, and washed it only a few times after. Way too much dust, dirt, mud...etc I'd be spending hours every time I drove it washing that stuff off. Even a quick drive down to the backroads for photos got so much dirt on it. I was dry washing it between shots during the photo shoot. Every minute the car was out there wind brought new coatings of dust. Some environments are just simply impossible to keep a car clean in.

I showed a friend and he said take it back to get repainted. I had to paint correct it. It took a couple of days and what a difference. Ceramic coated, hydrophobic coated paint , wheels and calipers. I personally don’t use the same microfiber towel for the top of the car and the sides and bottom. You will have more dirt, and large size particles on the sides of the car than the top and even more so on the bottom. Use one towel for the top, one for the sides and one for the bottom so that you are not dragging all those potential particles all over the car.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
I don't think you understand the method I showed. It won't matter if you wash front to back. Back to front. Bottom to top etc. Every panel you do is a fresh towel side. You never use a towel side more than once. So each towel and respective side is one time use per wash.

Porsche charge their customers $12k for a small lip spoiler… so for a car of this value it’s quite good value for money when the paint gets fully protected
@rianime9371
@rianime9371 2 ай бұрын
Definitely worth it, considering it's condition before and getting it fully protected after getting rid of defects. They are spending more than £200,000 on a car, so £10,000 for a detail, paint correction, then paint protection is worth it. To do the paint correction, the exterior detail is necessary. And if your protecting it, you should correct the paint first. Other people can do it for alot cheaper, but will easily take less care of getting everything right.

My company motto is, reimagining the art of perfection. I I only use Gtechniq serum ultra and topped with EXO V5. This includes removing the wheels and completely cleaning the bottom of the vehicle, including wheel wells calipers you name it everything gets done. My detail start at $6,800. I spent two days paint correcting my Tesla, but was afraid to sand the dust specks that I found in the paint. I must have come across at least 7 of them. I had PPF applied to the front of the car and then I ceramic coated the paint and wheels. I put a hydrophic coating on all of the glass. Nowhere as nice as the detail job that you did.

Paint & body technician at the port for VW group of America here, and proud to say we are the #1 port for VW across the globe. This is surprising to see, I wonder which port this vehicle came from. We do see defects like this from time to time, not so much the holograms.. but the amount of swirls and holograms on this car is quite crazy. The door looks like it has been panel painted. I would say 95% of the cars that come off the boat tend to leave here with a perfect finish. We remove the vehicle wraps, wet sand compound and polish every single car that needs it and gets QC'd by 4 people before it gets QC'd by another logistics group next door to us then gets shipped to the dealers. Let me tell you, the Porsche guys are the biggest sticklers lol. They want everything to look better than factory, make it look like its never been touched, but tell us to do things that go against that or that are frowned upon. Paint correction is easy! Just time consuming.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
I'm confused are you in Germany loading cars on or in America unloading? You said 95% of cars that come off the boat leave here here with perfect paint. I don't understand where they came from and where here is. You said we remove the wrap. But the dealership removes it. So that's kinda confusing. Do you remove it and then reinstall it. Because they all show up to dealership wrapped. Your saying multiple people check it polish it etc. For years every gt Porsche I've done has issues. Literally every car. A lot of what your saying just doesn't make sense but I'm curious to here you clarify. Thanks!

@@STATUSDETAIL I work for VW group of America. So I work in the states. I believe there are 8 VW ports in the US. Our facility is the newest one located in Maryland. I do not unload the boats, 3rd party company does. 3rd party company also inspects vehicles on the boat and when they come off the boat as well. The cars come from Germany and Mexico by boat, Chattanooga by train. I work as a paint and body technician. My department handles factory paint/body defects and all vehicles that get damaged in the process. Like I said, we are the #1 port for VW across the globe and not all port processes are the same though we are trying to set the standard. As far as holograms/swirls, they do not magically appear. You need some sort of agitation for them to appear like car washes.. Some locations have touch free, some don't. BMW port next to us doesn't and I believe all of their cars get run through the car wash so they end up w/ some swirls.

You didn't answer some of my questions so I'm still genuinely confused about some of the things you said you do. Mainly the removing delivery wrap apparently fixing things and then redoing the delivery wrap a second time? Because like I said they show up basically double wrapped to a dealership there's white plastic wrap over the fenders and other parts of the car plus the zippered full body wrap. I also appreciate you explaining to a Detailer how swirl marks happen... It's interesting and makes sense that there are multiple ports so I can definitely understand that some sports might do things better than other ones. I do not know what port this car came into but with some digging I might be able to find out.

This will upset a lot of people. Paint correction is a marketing term to say cut and buff. Make no mistake, any time you wet sand a finish and then buff and polish it removes the mil thickness of the clear coat. Depending on where your located you can actually put the finish in a position where the uv will damage it. I’ll leave alone the other negative affects of a sub standard thin finish after. Me, ICAR Gold Shop and ex instructor. If your ppf’ing your car there’s no reason to do this procedure unless its damaged then add a layer of material that can be up to 12 mils.
@STATUSDETAIL
@STATUSDETAIL Жыл бұрын
That wasn't exactly accurate and your use of the term cut and buff isn't either. I paint corrected my s4 I just sold 8 years ago and had no clear cost issues during ownership. Dust nibs will look pretty awful when ppf goes over it. If your suggesting PPF conceals dust nibs then I know everything I need to lol
@Charlie-go6eb
@Charlie-go6eb Жыл бұрын
@@STATUSDETAIL Sorry, but if you wet sand any paint surface on a vehicle it thins the clear coat. I’m not saying nor did I say doing the actual work is going to be a detriment. It really comes down to who is doing the work. On cars that a true show finish is wanted its pretty standard to increase the mil thickness of the clear knowing it’ll be worked pretty good to get the desired result. I completely agree about denibbing a finish. I was not knocking what you or any reputable detailer does, just pointing out what some of the negatives can be. The other very big one is shops that do ppf by hand cutting on the vehicles. Your videos are great, wasn’t insinuating your unprofessional in the least. I’ll leave the cost aspect alone.

You would be shocked how things go down in a dealership. Many dealerships do a pretty good job. Yeah It can definitely be a tough business to be in we are fortunate because we work on exotic cars and these are also very difficult to do but it also means we can charge the correct amount and the customers typically have the money to pay. If you're doing this kind of work or vinyl work on more normal cars you're asking still a lot of money but the customer might not be as wealthy which makes it hard for them to come up with the money. This obviously then makes it hard for the business to make money. So I'm not completely shocked your out of business because it's a hard business to be in. You have to charge a large amount of money to do professional work but your customer base might not have it. This kind of work caters very well to the high end market though. And trust me even in this market segment we get customers that give us grief on price all the time. Hope you moved into better brighter things 👍👍
