G1 Transformers Review: Grimlock Transformer

This video is a comprehensive review of the Generation 1 (G1) Transformers Action Figure Grimlock. PLEASE READ: Feel free to leave comments, however, please refrain from discussing the differences between Vintage G1 Toys, Hasbro Reissues, Takara Reissues, Toys 'R' Us Reissues, or Knock-Offs. My video reviews are meant for the viewer to enjoy the Generation 1 Transformers Cartoon through ANY toy or action figure that validly represents characters from the cartoon, no matter who created them.

My favorite Transformer when I was kid. I remember when I first got Grimlock...I loved Transformers and dinosaurs when I was a kid, so he was automatically going to be awesome for me.

I know these videos are old, and i appreciate your reviews and the consistent style in all of them. Most of these figures I'm sad to say are knock offs, High Quality ones, but knock offs non the less. The misspelling on the boxes. The text lining up differently on the boxes from character to character. And the weapons not fitting in his hands is also a tell tale sign. Sorry if you were under the impression that these were the genuine article.

I got Reflector as a knockoff. Will not purchase another knockoff again. His damn legs broke while transforming and some pieces were missing.

Out of curiosity, does the hatch on the back open up? Mine kinda moves but doesn't open. I figured there'd be a seat there for the old diaclone playstyle..

This is a ko grimlock, not the original, because the packaging has a lot of misspelling, like:"Bomander", and another example is that the guns don't fit well in his hands, which should in the original toy. Are you aware in your reviews that you reviewed a ko ?

So, the compartment that opens on grim's back, is it a remanence part of when they were "diaclenes"? Is it for its rider?

Is this a genuine G1 issue toy? I have to ask as why does it say 'Dinobot Bommander' on the box? Such a sloppy typo would never have happened on an original would it?

it could be a fake,most likley,but as a star wars collector as well as transformers i have noticed a few obvious mistakes on hasbro boxes.i have a sw set with vader,2 snowtroopers,snow scouttrooper,white speederbike and an e-web cannon.clearly its from the empire strikes back attack on hoth battle but hasbro clearly have it marked as from the clone wars era....glaring mistake on hasbros part

I never could see the point of giving Grimlock a sword and 2 guns. Why does a weapon need weapons?

The comics were first and the tech specs were written with the comics in mind (after all Budiansky wrote almost all of them). In the comics the dinobots weren´t dumb, just very aggressive. Also Grimlock was one of the most trusted liutenant commanders in the autobot army and a very intelligent strategist.

Grimlock's Energon sword was very prominent in the comics. He was always wielding it in battle. I never had this toy of Grimlock. I did have smaller "pretenders" series version though. Problem with that toy was that it was incredibly small (about the size of an G.I.JOE figure).

There are die-cast parts on the original G1 and Re-Issue figures, so I'd assume that there's die-cast parts on this one.

My con is the head positioning of Grimlock. His head in robot form is way to far back. They should have designed him to have his head move forward.

The artwork on his box is holding a Grey Sword but in the toy itself the sword is Red , i think they make a mistake here.

I love these reviews! Classic! I just sense a big baby. Every once in a while I sense a spoiled fat kid. When you say you'd stomp him but you don't collect stupid toys like Wheelie, for example. The BEST example is on Ironside's review. You say "I can go buy another sticker if I want...". I was like, this guy's one step away from being the kid who ate too much in Willy Wonka! Go back and listen, it's hilarious!

Interestingly, I've noticed that, unlike other characters, Grimlock's G1 toy's transformation is actually MORE complex than later versions (excluding the Masterpiece ones, of course)! I'm not a fan of transformations being too simple.

I'll grant you that. Grimlock's got strength and is the most fierce. I think out of all the Dinobots Swoop is probably the smartest. Slag is the most hostle. Sludge is the most loyal because of the lowest intelligence. Snarl is the meanest and Grimlock's got a little of everything.
