@@bbc_nanm at 3:02, he motions to someone at stage left, pointing at Eric and giving a palm up sign. Then when Eric starts soloing at 3:37, he senses Eric's volume level isn't highlighting his solo spot enough, he turns to his own amp and dials down.

Which is surprising. The dude plays at extreme volume on stage...at least he used to. Met him one time at a meet and greet on the Ah Via Musicom tour in Atlanta. Played the center stage theater. Three piece band. He had plexiglass in front of his amps and they still got over the PA. If you were standing at the stage.

He had a massive ego and was clearly threatened and worried about being outplayed especially with the improv. He was used to being worshipped as the best, but was actually very limited as an instrumentalist. So many of his solos have exactly the same phrases, especially that whammy scoop hammer-on thing he did to finish off almost every solo. I don't think he'd come off well on a G3 show in direct comparison to technically better guitarists.

Someone needs to reconsider the audio mix for these three guys together. EJ has vintage output pickups and Vai’s have about 5 1/2 times the output and then there’s the vintage amps vs the Synergy stuff. Either turn the two hi output maniacs down or turn the Vintage man up! If it’s gonna be like that at the LA show in a couple weeks I’m gonna be real mad.
