Honestly, I prefer the live streams of today. The whole TV news anchor 3 min sound byte style of TV is rather annoying in the age of the internet/youtube. But this was the first time I remember seeing such extensive coverage of E3, so it was damn amazing to watch these back then.

It is nice to go to KZbin, watch the press conferences, and then look at all the games I cared about and skip the shit I didn't. But I still miss it.

Man, this really brings back memories. Especially their takes on the consoles before they released. I also remember not being sold on the 360 right away, and people talking about how they "aren't seeing much of a difference." That was because of early mediocre games like Peter Jackson's King Kong and Perfect Dark Zero, as well as the fact that most people didn't have HDTV's yet and would still be plugging the console into their CRT TV with the composite video cable.

It's all about the marketing. Microsoft was trying to release a product that everyone could get behind, Sony was trying to show off it's technology. At the time of "next gen," showing off technology was more attractive. It was shiny, it was black, looked sleek.

It's ironic because PS3 had some of the same functionalities, but they didn't lean into that. Xbox made the smart choice, the real future. Not flashy visuals and smokescreen.

People tend to forget the original 360 didn't came with a hard drive and didn't even had a hdmi port that was only available for the "elite" model and pretty much everybody wanted it.

It's amazing how often people fall for blatant marketing trickery. (Like the PS3 launch) They really thought it was going to be the next generation in computing. Also the Killzone 2 "trailer" You can tell right at the beginning that it's pre-rendered, but because he pulls the gun up to the camera ala first person shooter, that's all it took to convince us. Lol "we don't have character shadows but we have volumetric smoke"
