Thanks once again, Ray. For me, these NanoVNA videos are just the right length - there's quite a lot to take in so gently spreading the various topics makes complete sense. 73s G6ZTV

Ray I just ordered a NanoVNA, your videos are great and I'll use them to learn how to use it. I just put up a 40meter dipole which I'll tune with it. Thanks so much and 73, k2bew

Crack on with these instructional presentations Ray they are really good fun,I have an early nanoVNA and found it to be very useful,also experimenting with a Tiny spectrum analyser (tinySA) good for checking TX signal and harmonics etc,regards Colin G1PGI.

Thanks Colin, it’s nice to hear from you. I’ll definitely crack on! Cheers, Ray.

I bought a NanoVNA the other week. I had real trouble calibrating it, only to discover one of the SMA leads was dodgy...🙄 I used the SMA leads from my TinySA and was able to calibrate it without any further problems...

Glad you sorted it out! Cheers, Ray.

the vna can used as a dip meter aswell just put a coil to the output.

I learned something from your today and appreciate what I have learned. I just HAD to play with what I learned. I found my commercially-made choke balun was not-so-effective on the 80M band (7dB) ... better than nothing, I suppose. One quick thought on the crystal thing...often crystals like a certain amount of circuit capacitance in order to achieve their marked frequency. This test does not take this into account, so we can only get an idea of where the crystal might be resonant without this capacitance ... or with the capacitance presented by the VNA. Nonetheless, it is a GREAT test to at least get a window into their resonant frequency. Real, several digit accuracy isn't going to be achieved.

Another excellent video, Ray. It is unfortunate that the designers of the NanoVNA designated the ports as "CH0" and "CH1" instead of the usual "Port 1" and "Port 2" from which the standard transfer coefficients of "S11", "S21" etc. are derived, but never mind. The more you look into it, the more the NanoVNA can do, including measuring inductance, capacitance etc. at high frequencies, when things are often not what they seem, especially when simple components approach self-resonance...

Hi, interesting info. Thanks. CH0 and CH1 does seem odd! Cheers, Ray.

Hi matey just a question relating to your small diecast alloy box on your Nano wires. Did you make a dividing partition in box between the connectors . For each channel. I am in the process of making one. Video on my channel. Cheers from old George.
@g4nsj2 жыл бұрын
Hi George, hi I didn’t divide the box. Sounds like a good idea. I’ll check out your video.

Hello Ray. Great video i'm a newbie with the NanoVNA just used it for SWR testing but would be great to test the impendence of my choke. How exactly did you build your little box wiring etc. Thanks M7OLG
@g4nsj2 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the video. The box is simply to mount the SMA connectors. There’s nothing inside.
@shizzle6664402 жыл бұрын
@@g4nsj is the crocodile clip wire soldered to the outer or center pin of the SMA. i'm using a couple of surface mounted SMA connectors without a box.

@@g4nsj Hello! I've seen videos where there are resistors, attenuators, etc. Would be useful for newbies to see a picture of how the connections are made inside. For example on your website? Tx in advance @

Ray , I may have missed it but can you share the wiring diagram for your little box and leads. I want to build one here. Thanks, Terry, WA0DTH
@g4nsj3 жыл бұрын
There wasn’t a diagram. It’s two sockets in the box with the inner contact on each one taken out to the crock clips.

Incidentally Ray, is that your old workshop redecorated and re-arranged, or have you been allowed to move into the comfort of the house? ;-)

Hi Ray. Thanks for the video, now you're retired you'll either have lots of time for doing what you love, or you'll have no time at all for yourself as you'll be doing all those little jobs your wife's been listing for your over the years! Like me! Anyway, what's that you were saying about having medium wave crystals in your box? The sound seemed to drop out as you were able to explain. Keep safe and enjoy retirement.

Medium wave crystals... No, no that was a friend of mine. 😂 Yes, my wife is finding me plenty of jobs! Nice to hear from you, take care. Cheers, Ray.
