A long post - I was at a loose end when I wrote this and I'm about to retire, so you might get more - Sorry! Not sure about the new Filters. My filter had a long tapered spring for the original filter (Brass Disc). Paper disc being similar, which I am still using. When compressed the spring roughly fills the recess (Note) in the bottom of the shaft in the fuel bowl. The older disc filter was quite clever - it does not need a seal on the shaft at the bottom! Just needs a stout spring to keep the elements compressed. Ensure not too much play in top hole and as long as the first inch or so of the shaft (By top hole) and top edge of the bowl (inculding the two threads of course) are ok - the bowl is fine too use even if heavily pitted by rust - which after time it generally is! Was advised to fit a shorter spring (Note) for the modern filters to allow the filter to go down far enough to seal the bowl - this inturn allows the bottom seal on the new filters to pop over the aformentioned recess compromising the seal at the bottom which it definitely needs. If it doesn't, it's pretty close and the shaft needs to be in reasonably good condition here as well. The new filters I feel seem too long - I think they need to have a solid tube fixed down the centre! This at least would allow the filter not to rely on the inside condition of the bowl at least at the bottom - perhaps with some kind of seal for the shaft on or near the top to replicate the oringinal type filter! I hope this makes sense! I've got three diferent makes of these new filters including a baldwin one amd they all seem to be the same. The old style filters aren't readily avaiable now and over the years removing dammaged discs it's getting a bit short in the tooth. So need a usaable replacement. Going to look at getting them to act like the originals - Any comments! Slogan for today - Hey- My jeep's a green car - No kidding!

Thanks Scott, really helpful! Just sent a mail to RFJP for some parts. Maybe a small tip, what about a bluetooth mic when you are recording on a distance from your camera? would improve the sound of your voice tremendously. keep up the good work!

Hi Scott, I just bought my first 1943 Willys Jeep. After studying a lot of photos I've noticed I have the same engine as in this video can you please tell me what engine you have , and if there was a variation for the L134 installed in the Ford GPW? what caught my attention is the bolts on the manifold. Mine are the same as yours, but others I've seen have nuts on top not the straight bolt in type . Can you school me on this. Thanks

Didn't the decal on the filter get covered in a thin coat of varnish to prevent the decal from coming off or the ink being eaten away by fuel spilling.
