I was against abortion until fairly recently myself. I'm still not exactly a fan. I guess you could call me "reluctantly pro-choice." I realized a long time ago that these right-wingers were also opposed to contraception, which reduces the need for abortion, and also that they don't give a damn about a baby once it's born, and I had a hard time reconciling my stance with those pieces of knowledge. Even at my most extreme, I never expected a woman to continue a pregnancy that was the result of an assault, or one that could put her life in danger. Once I found out that they were expecting woman to do just that, it gave me a hard shove into the pro-choice camp. There's always that one thing that's the final straw.

Trump, Vance and the GOP are promoting a rape culture in the US. Women are being told they deserve to be punished if they do not have a child, and Trump supports a man for public office who calls himself a perv and says if a woman gets raped or pregnant, it's her fault for not keeping her skirt down. Vance says a woman isn't really a full citizen with full voting rights if she didn't bear children, and if caught in a violent marriage, will be forced to stay in the marriage. Same here a retired nurse and had experience of an ectopic pregnancy back then there were no ultrasound nothing the baby had died in my fallopian tube pain was sharp and breath taking but went to hospital no bleeding to be seen kept me 4 days nothing happening almost sent me home but the Dr decided to do lab work when it came back said your not going anywhere werc going to do surgery was losing blood into my abdomen and sepsis would had set in And I would had died. So that's what they found when opening me up there was this grey mitten no finger just a mitten look no features nothing that was an embryo no baby features at all it looked like the part of a cows stomach no nose no eyes no mouth. Just a flat grey glove nothing. I lived to raise my son's and have three girls too ☺️

In 1976, I was 59 days away from my 18th birthday (Dec. 31,) on election day, 😢 but I wanted to vote for Jimmy Carter SO badly, especially after the Nixon/Agnew/Ford bullsh*t that happened, plus I was a VERY liberal freshman in college! And then Reagan happened, and I did NOT vote for him, but I did serve in the Air Force during his Presidency. That's when I learned about Continuing Resolution Authorities. Thanks for cutting Social Security, Medicare, Food Stamps, & Education, Reagan, and trickle-down economics was a clusterf*ck! But he did give amnesty to 2.9 million illegal immigrants, so there's that! Anyway, happy birthday and respect to you, President Carter!

Many Dems worked on trying to make it happen, but the abortion issue didn't make it to the ballot due to some small technicality with the petition signatures. It probably wouldn't have mattered anyway. Arkansas is very red, very religious, and very backward.
