As per the movie's plot which is basically a prank on the old man in the video, the couple - Sharmila and Dharmendra are to live as two strangers whereas they are actually newly wed. So the poet is expressing the sweet agony of not being able to express love for her sajan (beloved) even though they are so close to each other and living in the same home. I would encourage you to watch this beautiful Hrishikesh Mukherjee comedy to enjoy the context and as the person above says, how it gels with the context in the movie.
