I see why a lot of people disagree on that one. Especially since the skukaku didn't show up, and Gaara is a Shinobi with more abilities than just sand bending. The grand sand mausoleam, for example, is a sealing justsu which should one shot her. Edit: If we take Boruto into account, Gaara's Taijutsu skills are explicitly stated to be on par with Naruto's and he can keep up with Ototsuki so... yeah he melts

If any match needs a rematch it’s this one. It’s not even that Toph won, it’s that Gaara had to be dumbed down to lose. He watches Toph bend earth, she tells him she can sense his sand, and he decides to… keep throwing it at her. He _still_ uses sand armor after this? He decides the best course of action is to lock himself in a sand dome against someone who could’ve just created a pit under him? Brain power at 0. He watched her survive sand coffin and thought it’d work out if he just threw more sand at her? Yeah, okay.

He wouldn't stand around letting her control his sand or any around him for one. It'd be a stalemate. In the show Toph has never been shown to be able to bend two versions of the same element at once. I don't remember her ever metalbending _and_ earthbending at the same time. Yet here she's the earth Avatar. Gaara wouldn't fight stupidly. He learned Kimmimaro was too tough to crush normally and fought smarter. He didn't just use sand waterfall because a lot of sand = drown. There are two ways Toph can win. She takes hostages like Deidara or she surprises him legitimately, not by him exhausting his chakra for no reason, taking a break in his bubble, and still being tired. Not even mentioning that Toph has to be faster than him. That's the only way a fight like this wouldn't be them just playing tug of war for five minutes. Plus if they can use DVD extras and comics for Toph, the results could've only been fair if they used the databooks for Gaara. _He has wind and lighting release._ Him never using them doesn't change what the databooks say, and IV came out in 2014. He had more battle experience at 12 than Toph had in her whole life.

She's won tournaments, fought a war against enhanced fire benders, and even defeated bending masters with more experience than her multiple times. She's done many impressive feats like slowing down the sinking of a massive library, and a giant drill. Where she lack in experience she make up for with raw power. Even if Gaara didn't supply her with sand, she could just get resources from the surrounding area, and if Gaara went of the defensive, and they had "equal control of the sand" I'm pretty sure Toph can break through it. Once she was able to break an iron ship in half with a single strike. And the Toph they used in the fight may be the young, but that's because it's more recognisable. They're really using a composite version, so it includes the experience of her older versions as well.

Using her seismic sense at the same time as metalbending doesn’t change what I said. She metalbends _and then_ she earthbends. She has never done them at the same time. In no universe is Toph able to overpower Gaara. He helped to stop the descent of a massive meteor, has blocked attacks from the Raikage, who can and does cave in ribcages with a single hit and uses lightning armor, and survived the impact of a second giant meteor unharmed that landed on top of him. Gaara has power, an incredibly hard defense, _and_ speed. And I’m only taking his feats before the date of this video. Toph using the surrounding area would only give him more ammo. His control of sand isn’t limited to what’s in front of or behind him. Gaara has been praised for his intelligence multiple times throughout the series. To think that he would just stand there and let Toph do things is not Gaara. It’s Kiba.

And the very concept of metal bending is manipulating multiple sources of minerals, as certain metals are a composition of different minerals. And again Toph has been able to go against bending masters more experienced than her, adult more than twice her age with years of experience, fire bending soldiers that were enhanced by the comet. She was able to match King Bumi, a very talented and strong earth bender with over a hundred years of experience, and I never said Toph has more experience than Gaara. I implied that she herself has certain amount of experience. Like I said Toph is a really heavy hitter and also very strong, she was able to slow down a giant sinking library, and broke a battle ship in half with a single strike. She did this while on her own ship, raising a pillar of rock from deep under water in a mater of seconds. Gaara's armor has definitely broken with weaker attacks, add on to that Toph could also manipulate his armor herself further weakening it. And technically both of these two attacking each other will just supply one other with more ammunition, but the difference is Toph is attacking with sand, stone and metal, while Gaara still has to breakdown the stones. Also Gaara needs chakra to use his abilities, while Toph doesn't have such limitations.

I think the biggest failure of judgement here has to be this: Earth bending requires actual physical movement for them to actually bend earth (apart from remote earth bending, where Toph has never actually needed to do this and we have only seen Bumi (who required a great deal of concentration to pull it off) and Aang (in avatar state) do it). Gaara manipulates sand with his mind, and his ultimate defence doesn't even need thought it's basically a reactive armour. Gaara could quite literally encase Toph in sand, immobilizing her, and crushing her way before she could be even afforded the opportunity to even amass a pebble to launch at him.

I believe gaara would win. His sand could literally do aerial attacks. Who ever said that gaara had to be on the ground in the fight???? No one, and that's where he gets the major advantage. She's not as fast as lee(or any ninja really) so avoiding and dodging would be incredibly difficult. Plus all he would really need to do is just stay in the air and attack. She might be able to tell where the attacks are, but it won't be accurate as sand is the one mineral she has the most trouble with "seeing". I love toph and if the battle was restricted to the ground, then she WOULD win. I think the terrain has a lot to play in their fight.

It was explained in Gara's section that his sand is incredibly fast and can be changed greatly in it's size, shape and form. He has shown many times that he is well experienced and intelligent enough to learn counter measures and strategies. It also needs to be taken into account that Toph is very playful and young while Gara is more wise and patient. Gara has multiple huge and powerful techniques such as sand Tsunami and raining sand shuriken, to me and many other people it seems that it would be VERY hard to avoid things like that especially because Toph is blind and can only sense ground movement not air. And how can she sense the sand coming right at her at great speeds like faster than the speed of sound as it was mentioned before and still block it. She can only sense the ground and if she is using hearing to tell that the sand is coming right at her in THE AIR then that's very unlikely and doesn't make any sense. Gara can also use his sand to make himself fly and raise huge amounts of sand above him, Toph would be completely at a disadvantage when Gara does this and has no counter measures for it. Also the combat movement in Naruto is DRASTICALLY different compared to Avatar the Last Airbender, Toph can move around with the earth yes but what I mean is the speed and pace of the fight, Gara doesn't move fast but his attacks and defenses do, Toph is slower and isn't used to this speed while Gara is fighting people like Rock Lee, Sasuke and other really fast ninja. Gara's overall toolkit is much more versatile in attacks and defense and can Effectively hit Toph's blind spots (literally). Gara's absolute defense is much more stronger than any defense Toph has and if she even tries to come close to it Gara can create A LITERAL SAND EYE OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT SHE IS DOING, like CMON DO YOU THINK GARA IS GOING TO LET HER COME CLOSE AND BEND THE SAND WHILE HE IS INSIDE like no he isn't. Toph probably won't have any access to metal so that's useless, she'll rely on the earth and that she has to use her limbs to bend BUT GARA DOESN'T, Gara can keep his distance and has much more deadlier techniques, that's a very key weakness that Gara can exploit very well, he can create diversions and capture a body part of hers with sand coffin, she can create turn that into rock instantly but what if he captures not her hand with sand coffin but her arm, this technique is very fast and she wont be able to bend it fast enough to save herself and her hand will not be touching the sand to be able to bend it anyway. This strategy would secure Gara an easy win because Toph would not be able to do anything about his fast movement and ranged attacks. Although it's not as strong as his sand barriers and absolute defense, Gara's sand amour is no push over as it can withstand many hits. Although it's not his strong point, Gara also got better in Taijutsu, his up close attacks and capabilities are better and can be used as an advantage if need be, Toph is not a good fighter in martial arts so Gara can use that, this is unlikely though because it's not necessary to win. Toph is also 12 YEAARS OLD she does not have the mental capacity, energy and experience to BEAT Gara, this dude has been fighting for his life and was much stronger at a younger age. AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS (VERY VERY VERY UNLIKELY) Gara can literally sink the sand and earth, as shown in the Avatar show, Toph struggled to fight her best in sand and prevent the earth to sink. Toph will have no chance in hitting Gara anyway and she'll never be able to get in close. There is absolutely no way Toph can win because of Gara's really fast automatic defenses and his powerful and fast attacks. I wasted a very long time constructing and writing a well thought out message explaining to thorough detail that Gara is the clear victor here. Do not take everything that Death battle states as a fact because in many of their videos the explanation of the battles and advantages and disadvantages don't make sense as shown in the ACTUAL BATTLE GARA IS JUST STANDING THERE THROWING SAND BALLS OVER AND OVER AND THEN JUST DIES. The way Gara battled in the video was very underwhelming and boring and shows how wrong they are. I have no problem with Death battle making the battle even at first but there is in now way you illustrate the battle that MUCH INTO TOPHS favor, Death battle puts so much effort into all their videos and I love them as well but this fight was just not good and was not up to the standard as others. This comment was basically meant summarize everything Gara has over Toph and to show how much stronger he is compared to her. I have watched both shows and like them very much, I have a lot of biased towards Gara I admit but I think I displayed very good reasoning to how Gara can defeat Toph. This was created out of pure salty discomfort and disbelief of mine and I just felt like giving a well made comment showing how wrong this battle outcome was and making myself more contented knowing that I am right. On top of all the other stuff I said, when she killed him by punching him in the back of the head or whatever, I honestly doubt that would've broken his sand armor, considering Rock Lee's Hidden Lotus didn't do it, and that left a huge crater in the ground. Second, she wouldn't have been have been able to use his Absolute Defense against him, considering how much chakra his sand contains. It would've resisted her Earth Bending. Now, I love avatar. I've watched every episode and am on 264 of shippuden after watching naruto. One thing I'd like to stress is that toph couldn't have got to him at the end. I't's been shown that the only way to beat Gaara's defense is with enourmous momentary power (Gaara vs Diedera) or enourmous speed. Now, I'm not saying toph isn't strong because she is but gaara's sand didn't even try to protect him. Also there is no way that his sand was that slow. Before he was even a chunin, let alone kazekage, rock lee was only just fast enough to hit him after taking of his leg weights (which have been shown to be ridiculously heavy) and only making significant damage after opening a few gates. Also, gaara was quick enough to switch himself to a clone when lee blinked! Litteraly in the blink of an eye he evaded the primary lotus! IN ABOUT EPISODE 60! Even if he wants to hurt himself his sand will rush up to protect him. The guy actually asked what pain felt like and didn't feel it until he was about 12 even after a couple of A-rank missions. There is no way that toph could reach him so quilckly. I know h wasn't close to the ground but sand would rush from his gord or anything close to him to protect him and you clearly debuffed him. If he used sand tsunami or controlled toph she'd die and don't even get me started on that sand coffin stuff. I've seen every Naruto and Naruto Shippuden Episode up to date, and read all the manga. I've also watched all of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I have not watched Legend of Korra yet. Though, considering in TLOK Toph is elderly, I would have to assume that she is at a condition lesser or equal to that of her younger self so the Toph from ATLA would be better anyway. Yet, none of the above should be necessary considering that Toph is only a regular human that can bend earthly materials, while ninjas from the Naruto universe are superhuman and have far more abilities than just manipulating earth.

He has superhuman speed, superhuman strength, superhuman cognition, he can use weapons, he can use ninjutsu other than just sand, he would definitely win in hand in hand to combat because Toph is only a human and Gaara is superhuman and is adept in taijutsu. I love Toph. But she wouldn't win this. Gaara, being a shinobi (Kazekage to boot), can move vastly faster than Toph can. Meaning all he has to do is move fast enough for her to not properly respond to and that's game. Also, he has access to the sand clone technique (*meant to say the body replacement technique). Meaning no matter what Toph does, he can just replace his body with sand and dodge the attack. And lastly, all he has to do is keep Toph from moving. She can't bend unless she has room to move. So, he moves fast enough to catch her in his sand coffin technique to trap her and crush her. It'd take a fraction of a second to do. **Should probably add, before people google the body replacement technique and complain that the naruto wiki says it causes an optical illusion. The very notion that someone can not only move away from danger instantly but replace their body with another object already means they're faster than anyone in the entire Avatar universe.

Incorrect on a few points. Benders do not need to be able to move in order to bend. King Boomy for instance was encased in a metal coffin with only his face exposed. He didn't even need appendages to bend at all, even claiming he could have escaped imprisonment at any time, but didn't in order to keep his people safe. Depending on a Bender's ability, it takes very little, if any, movement to bend, though more movement tends to allow stronger bending. All she really has to be doing is touching the sand, and she can bend it. Sand Clones really don't mean anything. You cannot fake her out. They explain she is able to sense people just as easily as she can sand. Unless Garra can surprised his breathing and his heartbeat so much that he makes literally no biological signal for her to detect, she can find him. Clones don't do ANYTHING when you don't need your eyes to tell the difference. She'd just have to redirect her attack accordingly, knowing which was real and fake, and where he was going. And since he carries sand on him all the time (In the gourd), he can't go anywhere without her knowing, on top of sensing his heart/breathing/etc. As for actually trapping her, it'd take more than a fraction of a second. And the amount of steps it would take, she would have time to react in some way. Sending the sand, getting it around her, causing it to harden, then causing it to contract enough to kill her. She'd be able to react at some point from the start of the attack until the killing point. Don't underestimate the human mind's ability to process and then react.

Fire and lighting as well. Toph took Gaara's weapon against himself. Even if sand is a pain for Toph to deal with she can change its composition on the fly. Seals are still needed to make greater jutsu to focus and stabilize them. Gaara's mothers chakra can move fast but it has to stop moving at one point. Toph has almost every advantage. She can sense everything he does instantly. She doesn't have a limited power source. She can disperse/control all his attacks. He is using the thing she controls against her, how would she lose?

Jason Dunne her stamina is limited and lower than Gaara's who fought for 3 days straight before, he can use more sand to overpower her control and just because she can see an attack doesn't mean she can react

Jason Dunne 1: Yes, she can sense what he does, but not instantly. The speed of which a vibration in the ground travels is 17,895 mph. Gaara has been proven to be able to fact to and attack the Raikage, which is lightning speed. Lightning = 224,000 mph. Therefore, Gaaras attack > Tophs sight. She would still see him in a spot only to have her head ripped off by an attack. 2: SHe DOES have a limited power source, her body. Benders require physical stamina to bend, as shown when she fatigues when holding up the castle. Gaara relies on spiritual energy, chakra, which is almost limitless 3: Gaara "bending" feats: A) Covering a whole field in sand generated by him in an instant. B) Condensing that sand so that it can crush a material many times the strength of steel. C) Making a flood of sand 100x the above. D) Catching up to a literal lightning quick opponent E) Blocking a nuke F) CATCHING TWO MOON SIZED ASTEROIDS G) Making a functioning human eyeball H) Creating life (clones) Toph: A)I throw rox. B) Holding up a medium sized castle If anything, this proves that Gaara should be able to overpower HER control, because he's better at "bending" than she is. Jason Dunne She can't see/feel sand, her ability to detect objects are fuzzy and static in the desert sands, she would have no way to see sand attacks and therefore can not counter them. There are entire episodes pointing that weakness out.
