The sad part is that Gabbie has bragged about having YEARS of therapy (and has a degree in psychology to boot), but she didn't seem to grow from it - only used it to validate her experience and learn terminology that she now uses to manipulate others. Her relationship with professionals is also weird, as she has used her platform to berate psychiatrists just because she was frustrated they wouldn't give her the diagnosis she wanted (ADHD)... and, despite the fact she has access to great resources in L.A. and can definitely afford them, she chose to seek out an online practitioner for the diagnosis she now blames for all of her issues. She has no respect for anyone unless they do exactly what she wants. Make it make sense.

I feel you. What's truly awful about narcissistic parents is when you are freaking raised in that, other toxic relationships feel subconsciously, emotionally, & psychologically familiar. You're drawn to that BS in your other relationships/friendships throughout the rest of your life. It's the gift that keeps on giving. About the backpack thing: Gabbie's talked about therapy IIRC. She also has a psychology degree i guess. Some people, who do manipulate to get their needs met (which can be an ugly part of mental illness unfortunately), will use therapy to do their bad behaviors better. I've been in a lot of therapy concerning trauma with family members who are very good at playing the therapy game to their advantage. I've been treated for highly stigmatized disorders too, so i'm not just saying "all people with severe mental health issues are manipulative". The sad truth is that some people are as a manifestation of some mental illnesses, and they deserve care because constantly using manipulation to get your needs met isn't a comfortable or secure way to live. But the other sad truth is that certain people use therapy to manipulate better instead of using it to GET better. I think Gabbie is one of those people.

Yeah, I know the kind of situation you're talking about. An abusive friend of mine actually became worse when she was going to therapy; she didn’t rage as loudly, but her manipulation and making me feel like shit became much worse. She would dictate to me what my feelings and motivations were with the new lingo she had learned from her therapist, or coach or whatever they were. But ultimately, the worse behaviors didn’t stop.

I have read quite a lot about how some (not all) people with antisocial personality disorders will go to therapy only to get insight into how they should be acting or feeling so they can more easily fit in with society because they have no empathy or idea of how so-called "normal" people behave. So, I think you're right. Gabbie may well be that person and her mask of being a decent person has completely slipped off. No amount of mental gymnastics she wants to do now will negate all of the receipts and hard evidence that she is indeed the horrible person a lot of people have known for years.
