My thoughts, EXACTLY! I've seen the stage production twice, and this 'straight-to-DVD' version captures the magic beautifully! So much, in fact, that I own two copies of the musical DVD, as well as a digital version on flash drive! I also have both the London U.K. and Broadway soundtracks of CATS on compact disc. Not even interested in the film or it's associated soundtrack.

@@Titan52bergI have an idea and my idea is that in order To take a break from all live action remakes Walt Disney pictures should present a world full of MUSIC MAGIC and RHYTHM with 🎼The music of Andrew Lloyd Webber I mean Andrew Lloyd Webber and his music has shaped the sound of modern musical theater, touching audiences throughout the world, and his work is now available in 3 all new animated movies on dvd from Walt Disney pictures. For starters disney should release a hand drawn animated movie of CATS one of the most celebrated musicals of all time🐱 Another one should be released is a handdrawn animated movie of Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamcoat one of the most loved🌈 and it should directed by the directors of Aladdin and the little mermaid. And last but not least a hand drawn animated movie of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical masterpice The PHANTOM of the OPERA🌹 from the director of the animated movie of Disney's beauty and the beast. Also Each dvd includes special features such as behind the scenes, music videos, and a documentary of musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber himself. So yeah Disney should release hand drawn animated movies Based on the Musicals from Andrew Lloyd Webber CATS, Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamcoat, And The PHANTOM of the OPERA And what do u think of that please tell me.

I remember one of the things that was most fun about the live production was getting to go up on stage at intermission. This was in the 80's - I assume they still do that as part of the show today. It was great being able to see that amazing set up close and how oversized everything was. Added plus: I think it was under the back of the car, but one of the cats was so frightened and shy, she would just put her paw out. You could put your hand down and she would lightly pet your hand - then get scared and the paw would disappear. We learned later, of course, this was Grizabella.

After seeing Cats on Broadway, I went to an adult Halloween party as a black cat with some white marking (mostly for variation and to allow detail in the facial makeup I sewed a wig piece, used a black leotard, applied full face makeup. I acted my role by copying the movement and gestures from the Cats performers. The hardest part was creating and learning to act my tail. I did almost no walking until we unmasked; for me unmasking meant my first wholly human movement and speech.

Just imagine pitching this idea: “A musical about cats with everyone dressed as cats!” “Wait, what???”
@teaartist64555 жыл бұрын
In the end, the execution is the important part. Everything has been done before in some way and the grandest idea one may have is nothing if it's badly executed. If it lacks subtlety, cohesion and style, if it leaves the audience confused about everything, if the dialogue is stilted and awkward it's going to be much worse than an age old tale told with skill. That's not to say that being overly perfectionistic can't be a vice, you have to actually get to doing what you planned on doing, but in general it's better to go the mile to ensure a good end product even if many may not be able to pick up on all the things you put into it.

Elaine makes me cry within two notes.. god it’s breathtaking when creativity competently takes risk and puts art and emotion first. When dollar is a lucky reward, earned upon exhaustion, and not the engine. Sad to see where entertainment is right now in 2019 by comparison. Innovators and artists suffocated by computer files and shareholders. I hope that ends soon...

@@mousinge Not for that part ! Elaine Page didn't snot ,Its ham acting
@mousinge5 жыл бұрын
@@chrisdevene9158 Elaine Page didn't cry at all, or least not in any performance I've seen, most likely because crying with a full face of stage makeup's not the best idea however resitant to sweat it may be. Plus Elaine's version is usually more hopeful, still clinging to her pride and didn't really break down till her last verse. Jennifer's was already broken and despairing the first time she sings memory. Most people don't pretty cry even when they're only a little upset never mind completely broken up, so no, it's not ham acting, it's exactly the opposite. Ham acting would have been making all the faces to seem distraught WITHOUT also giving the ugly reality of what distraught looks like. If anything, she can be accused of putting too much weight on the acting and letting it impair her singing, but not that the acting itself was unrealistic, as no one sounds, or looks, their best when sobbing their heart out.

@@mousinge you do know it was a light musical about cats?
@mousinge5 жыл бұрын
@@chrisdevene9158 Yes, very light, with it's overarching themes of mortality and lost youth. Even regardless of that, even if the show as a whole were truly the empty, random spectacle that it's been accused of being, that's never applied to Grizabella and "Memory".

12:20 don't worry, they did so well that not even a modern movie could even hope to compete Putting aside the visuals of new movie, what I really missed was the small hints and interactions between the characters. Every person here knew their character and that characters role and relations to other characters and acted it out in different ways. Munkustap is the protector and you can clearly see it, Mungojerry and Rumpleteaser are mischievous and trouble makers and full of energy. I can continue on and on, but point is you can see it and feel it. I just feel like the new movie kinda missed the point. You just don't feel it as much. They could have done so much more and better in the new movie.

It’s so funny to hear the choreographer say: “I don’t want to see our work on a video and say, wow I could have done much better”. Obviously this was not the mindset of the director of Cats film 2019. I think some, only some, Broadway shows shouldn’t be made into a film because some of the magic is lost along the way. Love Cats!

When it comes to 'actual' movie adaptations, the director has basically full control over the vision. Weber might be asked for some advice or suggestion, but he's already agreed to give the rights over, and the director hired by the production studio calls the final shots. Weber just sits back and collects the checks. I doubt if he'd been given full control, for instance, Weber would've been that happy about Gerard Butler's singing, lol.

watching this after watching the 2019 abomination along with Sideway’s video essay about it is absolutely heartbreaking. makes you wonder what could have been if they had given that 100 million budget to people who actually cared about and understood the show. it could have been an absolutely smash hit but instead we got tom hooper’s second musical dumpster fire 19:31 “you need a great cast to pull it all off because if the cast isn’t up to par, everyone else’s job is marginalized”.
